My name is Amandine. Im 22 years old and I live in France.
I wanted to go aboard before starting the university to improve my English and to discover other
countries. And the best way to do this is to go aboard and work for me. Im a volunteer in a French
organisation for four years and I like the associative life. So when I knew that it was possible to be a
volunteer in a foreigner country I decided to set off on an adventure.
I did a short term EVS in Pelh!imov, at Hodina H, in May. The meeting with Czech people, the country
and the customs were really good for me. One month in a foreign country is long but short too. I liked
this place and so I ask to do a long term EVS to know better all those things and because what I saw
during my short term EVS at Hodina H is more or less the same than in my French organisation and I
wanted to see and to do more things with it.
To do an EVS is a good mean to discover new countries, customs and traditions and to meet new
people. To leave the host country and then to live in another one provides much more intense and
interesting discoveries and meeting. But the most important thing during EVS is the engagement of
the volunteer in the host organisation. To take part in the organisation activities so it is not just holiday
or vacation.
To do an EVS is also a good mean to learn a lot about oneself and to learn a lot of things about the
host country. The volunteer also brings own competences so its also sharing between the volunteer
and the local community. The volunteer is an active member who thhinks about things and not
somebody who only does what one says.
To conclude, I think that the best way to grow up is to go aboard to know how it is somewhere else, for
travelling or working. And to be a volunteer in an organisation in another country is the best thing that
everybody can do.
