SocietyInternationalandAlphaDeltaStatebylaws

ARTICLEICHAPTERNAME

ThenameofthechaptershallbeAlphaChapter,AlphaDeltaStateOrganization(Ohio),of
theDeltaKappaGammaSocietyInternational.

ARTICLEIIOBEJECT/PURPOSES

ThepurposesofAlphaChaptershallbetoupholdtheSevenPurposesoftheDeltaKappa
GammaSocietyInternationalandthoseofAlphaDeltaStateOrganization.ThesePurposes
shallbe:
1. Tounitewomeneducatorsoftheworldinagenuinespiritualfellowship
2. Tohonorwomenwhohavegivenorwhoevidenceapotentialfordistinctiveservice
inanyfieldofeducation
3. Toadvancetheprofessionalinterestandpositionofwomenineducation
4. Toinitiate,endorse,andsupportdesirablelegislationorothersuitableendeavorsin
theinterestofeducationandwomeneducators
5. Toendowscholarshipstoaidoutstandingwomeneducatorsinpursuinggraduate
studyandtograntfellowshipstowomeneducatorsfromothercountries
6. Tostimulatethepersonalandprofessionalgrowthofmembersandtoencourage
theirparticipationinappropriateprogramsofaction
7. Toinformthemembershipofcurrenteconomic,social,political,andeducational
issuessothattheymayparticipateeffectivelyinaworldsociety

ARTICLEIIIMEMBERSHIP

SectionA.Membership
1. AllmembershipshallbeinaccordancewiththeConstitution,ArticleIIIandthe
InternationalStandingRules,Section3.
2. MembershipinTheDeltaKappaGammaSocietyInternationalshallbeby
invitation.AmemberinitiatedintotheSocietybecomesamemberofachapter,a
stateorganization,andtheinternationalsociety.
3. AmemberbecomesamemberoftheSocietywhensheisinitiated.Sheisinitiated
onlyonce.
4. TheChapterhasfullauthorityfortheadministrationofmembership.
5. Membershiprecordsarekeptbychapter.

SectionB.Classification
1.ActiveMembershipAnActiveMembershallbeawomanwhoisemployedasa
professionaleducatororhasbeenretiredfromaneducationalposition.Anactive
membershallparticipateintheactivitiesofthesociety.
a.Aformermembershallbereinstatedtomembershipbythechapterreceiving
therequest.Shewillpaycurrentduesandfees.
2.ReserveMembershipReserveMembersareactivememberswhoareretiredfrom
educationandareunabletoparticipatefullyintheactivitiesofthechapterbecauseof
physicaldisability,familyhardshipand/orgeographicallocation.
a.Reservestatusshallbegrantedbyamajorityvoteofthechaptermembers
uponrequestofthemember.
b.Areservemember,sorequesting,shallberestoredtoactivemembership.
3.HonoraryMembershipHonoraryMembershipisgrantedtowomennoteligiblefor
activemembershipbutwhohaverenderednotableservicetoeducation,ortowomen,
andiselectedtohonorarystatusbyamajorityofmembershipinattendanceatmeeting
a.HonoraryMembershipmaynotbetransferred.
b.HonoraryMembersmaynotholdoffice.

SectionC.InitiationofActiveMember
1.ProspectiveinitiateswillberecommendedtotheMembershipCommitteeand
membershipformsmaybepresentedatanymeeting.
2.Amajorityofthosevotingwillelectcandidatetomembership.
3.Initiateswillreceiveanorientationpacketonthepurposesandbackgroundofthe
society.
3.Themembershipcommitteewillplanandconductaninitiationceremony.

SectionD.TerminationofMembers
1.Therecordingsecretaryshallrecord,intheminutes,thatnameofanymember
whosemembershipisterminated.Therecordshallincludethereasonanddateoftermination.
Reasonsforterminationare:
a.Nonpaymentofduesandfees
i.Exception:Ifthememberindicatestheinabilitytomeetthedeadline,
butwillingnesstomeetfinancialresponsibilities,anextensionmaybe
granted.Thetreasurermayprepaythemembersdues
b.Resignation

SectionE.TransferofMembershipamemberingoodstandingmaytransferfromonechapter
toanotheruponnotificationtoSocietyHeadquarters.

SectionF.Recognitionofmembersdeathshallbefinancedbychapterassessment(dues.)

SectionG.Pins
1. Thetreasurerwillorderthepresidentspin.Thepresidentwillreceiveherpinather
installation.
2. TheexecutiveboardshalldecideonthedispositionofSocietyjewelrywhichhas
beenreturnedtothechapter.

ARTICLEIVFINANCE

A.FinancialmattersshallbeinaccordancewiththeConstitution,InternationalStanding
RulesandtheAlphaDeltaStateBylaws.

B. TheFinanceCommitteeshallmakerecommendationsforchangesinduesnolater
thanthesummerExecutiveBoardmeeting.Allmembersshallbenotifiedpriorto
thefirstmeetingofthefiscalyear.
C. Chapterduesshallbedeterminedannuallybychaptervotenolaterthanthefirst
meetingofthefiscalyear.
D. Annualchapter,stateandinternationalduesandfeesshallbecollectedbythe
chaptertreasurerpriortoOctober31.
E. TheFinanceCommitteeshalldevelopanannualbudgetandpresentittothe
membershipforapprovalnolaterthanthefirstbusinessmeetingofthefiscalyear.
F. TheFinanceCommitteeshallprovideforanannualaudittobecompletedbya
presidentappointedmemberofthefinancecommittee.
G. Thechaptertreasurershallmaintainarecordofreceipts,bills,andbank
statements.
H. Thechapterpresidentsapprovalisrequiredforexpensespriortopayment.
I. Chaptermembersmayvotetopayanamountinadditiontoduesandfeesforthe
supportofachapterorstateorganizationproject.

ARTICLEVORGANIZATION

A. AlphaChaptershallgoverntheconductofitsbusinessinamannerconsistentwith
theConstitution,InternationalStandingRuse,AlphaDeltaStateBylaws,Alpha
DeltaStateStandingRuesandtheAlphaChapterStandingRules.
B. AlphaChapterretainsmembershipintheClevelandAreaCoordinatingCouncil.
C. AlphaChapterpresidentordesigneetoarepresentativeontheAlphaDeltaState
OrganizationExecutiveboard.

ARTICLESVIOFFICERSANDRELATEDPERSONNEL

A. AlphaChapterOfficersshallbeapresident,afirstvicepresidentforprograms,a
secondvicepresidentforthechapteryearbookandstatedirectory,arecording
secretaryandacorrespondingsecretary(allelected),andatreasurerselectedbythe
ExecutiveBoard.ThePresidentwillappointtheParliamentarianandtheNewsletter
Editor.

B. AslateofofficersshallbepreparedbytheNominationsCommitteeandpresentedto
themembershipatanearlyspringmeeting,withelectiontakingplaceatoneofthelast
twomeetingsoftheyear.

C. Electionsareheldinevennumberedyears.

D. TheballotshallincludetheslateofofficersandnomineesfortheNominations
Committee

E. Theexecutiveboardshallselectatreasurer.

F. OfficersshallperformdutiesasspecifiedintheConstitution,ArticleVI,AlphaDelta
StateBylawsandasauthorizedintheAlphaChapterStandingRules.

G. Termofofficeisfortwoyearsoruntilasuccessorisnamedforallofficersexcept
treasurer.

H. Inaddition:

1. ThePRESIDENTshallserveasadelegatetotheClevelandArea
CoordinatingCouncil.ThePresidentservesaspresiderforthe
initiationceremony.Sheshallseethatofficerandcommitteereports
arecompletedandsenttothestateandinternationallevelsontime.
Shemayappointspecialcommitteesandfillvacancies.
2. TheimmediatePASTPRESIDENTshallserveasadelegatetothe
ClevelandAreaCoordinatingCouncil.
3. TheFIRSTVICEPRESIDENTshallserveaschairmanofthe
ProgramCommittee.Shepresidesintheabsenceofthepresident.
4. TheSECONDVICEPRESIDENTshallupdateandpreparethe
informationfortheChapterYearbooksandStateDirectory.
5. TheRECORDINGSECRETARYshallbeamemberoftheStanding
RulesCommittee.Sheshalltakenotes,preparelegibleminutesof
eachmeeting,andreadtheminutesforeachmeeting.Shewillkeep
theseminutesonfileforreference.
6. TheCORRESPONDINGSECRETARYshallsendnotesandletters
forthechapter.Shewillnotifymembersofmeetings.
7. TheTREASURERshallcollectduesandnotifyamemberofany
delinquentdues.Sheshallmaintainapermanentrecordofmembers
whosemembershiphasbeenterminated.Sheshallmaintainarecord
ofreceipts,billsandbankstatements.Sheshallorderthepresidents
pin,attheChaptersexpense,andmakeitavailabletothe
NominationsChairmanbeforeinstallationofofficers.

ARTICLEVIIBOARDS

A. ThemembersofAlphaChapterExecutiveBoardshallbeelectedofficers,the
immediatepastpresidentandallcommitteechairmen,includingtheNewsletterEditor.
Thetreasurerisdesignatedaswithorwithoutavote.Theparliamentarianis
exofficioandwithoutavote.

B. TheAlphachapterExecutiveBoardshallfunctionaccordingtotheConstitution,
ArticleVII,andSectionC.

C. Executiveboardistomeetatleasttwiceayear

D. Aquorumisamajorityofthevotingmembers.

ARTICLEVIIICOMMITTEES

A. Standingcommitteesshallbe:Communications,Finance,Historian,Legislation,
Membership,Nominations,Program,Scholarship,andWorldFellowship.

B. DutiesoftheCommittees:
1. TheCommunicationsCommitteewillprepareatleasttwonewsletters
intheyear.Thepresidentapprovespublications.Copiesshouldbe
mailedtotheStateEditorandtheStateCommunicationsChairman.
Chaptersmaymeetthroughelectroniccommunicationaslongasall
themembersmaysimultaneouslyhearonanotherandparticipate
duringthemeeting.
2. TheFinanceCommitteewillincludethetreasurerandapresident
appointedmember.TheywillrecommendtotheExecutiveBoard
anyadjustmentsintheduesstructure.Theywillprepareabudget
annually.Thepresidentappointedmemberwillcompletetheannual
audit.
3. TheHistorianCommitteewillreview,revise,andupdatethechapter
history.
4. TheLegislationCommitteewillstudyandrecommendactionon
professionalissuesandshallurgememberstoinitiate,endorse,and
supportdesirablelegislationorothersuitableendeavorsintheinterest
ofeducationandofwomeneducators.
5. TheMembershipCommitteeshallberesponsiblefortheinitiation
processofnewmembers.Shewillintroduceinitiatestothechapter
andprepare,present,andcountthevotesintheelectionofall
members.Theyareresponsibleformembershipandnecrology
servicesandreports.
6. TheNominationCommitteewillberesponsibleforpresentingaslate
ofofficersforeachbiennium.
7. TheProgramCommittee,ledbytheFirstVicePresident,plan
programsforchaptermeetingsthatpromotepersonalwellbeing,
intellectualgrowth,professionalgrowth,andglobalawarenessof
womeneducators.Theprogramsandprojectswillfocusupontopics
adoptedbytheSociety.
8. TheScholarshipCommitteewillawardscholarshipstolocalrecipients
andpromoteSocietyscholarshipstochaptermembers.
9. TheWorldFellowshipCommitteewillpromotetheSocietyMission
andPurposesintheareaofworldfellowship.
10. Thechapterpresidentservesasmemberexofficiooncommittees
exceptNominations.
11. Aspecialcommitteemaybecreatedbythepresidentandapproved
bythechapterwhenaspecialneedarises.Memberswillbe
appointedbythepresident.

ARTICLEIXMEETINGS

A. Theexecutiveboardshallplanatleastseven(7)chaptermeetingperyearwhere
businessisconducted.(Aminimumoffour(4)regularmeetingsperyearisrequired.)
B. TheExecutiveBoardshallplanandscheduleatleasttwo(2)executiveboardmeetings
forplanningandbusinesspurposes.

C. Aquorumforchaptermeetingsisamajorityofthevotingmembersinattendance.

D. Aquorumforexecutiveboardmeetingsisamajorityofallvotingmembersofthe
board.

ARTICLEXAMENDMENTS

A. TheExecutiveBoardshallreviewthestandingrulesatleastonceduringthebiennium.

B. Individualrulesmaybeconsideredatanyregularbusinessmeeting.Achaptermember
mayinitiateanamendmentbysubmittingittotheExecutiveBoardforstudy.Shemay
thensubmittheamendmentasanewbusinessitematachaptermeeting.Amajority
approvalisrequired

ARTICLEXIDISSOLUTION

A. InternationalStandingRules,ArticleXIX,delineatesrulesgoverningthedissolutionof
achapter.

B.Theapprovalfordissolutionmustbegivenbythestateorganization,AlphaDelta
Statepriortotakinganyaction.

C. InternationalSocietyproceduresmustbefollowedformembersdesiringtomaintain
membershipandtransfertootherchapters.

D. Fundsremaininginthechapteraccountsaretobesenttothestateorganization
treasurer:thechaptercharter,paraphernaliaandrecordsaredeliveredtothestate
organization.
