2. How will I be able to identify characters based on six types?
3. How will identifying character types increase my understanding of the
authors purpose in the text?

IV. Instructional Objective: SWBAT define and identify 6 character types BECAUSE
this will help students think about why authors write, allow students to make
inferences to the text, and enrich their vocabulary

V. Instructional Procedures:
Opening/Review or Introduction (5 minutes)
1. Students will walk in class quietly and complete the Do Now question
presented on the board. This question relates to the lesson plan yesterday on
character traits and personality. DO NOW: What does actions speak louder
than words mean to you? Give one example.
2. Teacher will cold call on 5 students to get their responses to the Do Now

as a class these examples.

story on the ppt. They will identify and analyze two characters (Juan and
Rick) and answer questions presented on ppt.

class as a whole will discuss any discrepancies or differences in responses to
determine the correct response.

Smartboard for lecture, reading, and practice activities. Students will take notes
from the powerpoint presentation, read short story and answer questions.

VII. Assessment/Evaluation: Teacher will cold call students to get responses to
Do Now and lecture discussions. Teacher will also listen to responses and
discussions regarding the answers from the short story assignment to see how well
they identified the character types.

VIII. Differentiation:

2. Group discussions after students have answered their questions.
3. 5

periods (Special Ed classes), the class will read the short story
aloud and answer questions together as a whole group discussion.

IX: Technology: Computer and powerpoint presentation is needed to provide a
media visual instead of paperwork to assist in learning.

X: Self-Assessment: I will more than likely give a homework assignment to
provide more practice which will then allow me to further evaluate my students
understanding. My students were however able to meet the objective through this
lesson.
