Dhamma saraa gacchmi.

I go to the Dhamma as my refuge.

Sagha saraa gacchmi.

I go to the Sagha as my refuge.

Dutiyam'pi Buddha saraa gacchmi.

For the second time, I go to the Buddha as

my refuge.

Dutiyam'pi Dhamma saraa gacchmi.

For the second time, I go to the Dhamma as

my refuge.

Dutiyam'pi Sagha saraa gacchmi.

For the second time, I go to the Sa"gha as

my refuge.

Tatiyam'pi Buddha saraa gacchmi.

For the third time, I go to the Buddha as my

refuge.

Uposatha Nine Precepts

Ptipt verama sikkh-pada samdiymi. I take the precept to abstain from destroying

intoxication

heedlessness.

Aspiration & Sharing of Merits
Ida me pua savakkhayvaha hotu.

May this merit of mine be conducive to the

destruction of the [mental] effluents.


Ida me sla nibbnassa paccayo hotu.

May this merit of observing precepts a


[supportive] condition [for the realization]
of Nibbna.

Mama pua-bhga sabba

I share my merits done today

sattna bhjemi;
Te sabbe me sama pua
bhga labhantu.

with all beings.


May all those beings get an equal share of
the merits shared by me.

UPOSATHA NINE PRECEPTS

Kodha jahe vippajaheyya mna, Saojana sabbamatikkameyya,


Ta nma-rpasmi asajjamna, Akicana nnupatanti dukkh.
Sacca bhae na kujjheyya dajjppasmimpi ycito,
Etehi thi hnehi gacche devna'santike.
Yace vi pasasanti anuvicca suve suve,
cchidda-vutti medhvi pa-sla-samhita.
Kyena savut dhr atho vcya savut,
Manas savut dhr te ve suparisavut.

One should give up anger, renounce pride, and overcome all fetters.
Suffering never befalls him who clings not to mind and body and is detached.
Speak the truth; yield not to anger; when asked, give even if you only have a little.
By these three means can one reach the presence of the gods.
But the man whom the wise praise, after observing him day after day,
is one of flawless character, wise, and endowed with knowledge and virtue.
The wise are controlled in bodily action, controlled in speech and controlled in thought.
They are truly well-controlled.
