Inventions Project
Chapter 8

In class we have discussed the Industrial Revolution. You know how it started,
how it changed cities and how the workers were treated. Now you are going to
research a particular invention.

This is a 3 part process. You will research a technology from the time of the
industrial revolution, create a timeline of an invention of your choosing and
create a new technology that has not been invented yet.

Step 1: Research a Technology from the Industrial Revolution
1. See Mrs. Coffee for an invention. Write it here:______________________
2. In a Word Document answer the following questions on your invention.
a. Title this section of your Word Document with the name of your
invention
b. Find a picture that shows your invention
c. What did it do? (give details here)
d. How did it make life better? How did it improve life?
3. Print off this sheet and staple to the back of this assignment.

Step 2: Create a timeline of an invention
1. Pick an invention that you would like to research. You may choose from
the list below or something of your own choosing. You should research
this over a decent period (50-100 years) Write it
here:_____________________________________________
-fashion (pick one type of garment dress, pants, suits, hats etc)
-Agriculture (types of crops, types of fertilizer, and types of machinery)
-Medicine (pick a disease or illness and find out how the treatment of it
has changed)
-Popular entertainment (music, videos, computers, internet, gaming etc)
-Architecture of buildings
-Transportation (choose one form of transportation- boat, airplane, car
etc)

2. See Mrs. Coffee to tell her your choice before moving on.
3. Once you have been approved for your invention you must:
a. Find 10 pictures from various times in history telling how your
invention has changed
b. Under each picture you must
i. Describe what the picture is of
ii. State what it did. How was it different from before
iii. How did it make life simpler?
4. Attach timeline to this assignment


Step 3: Create your own invention
Typically inventions are used to make some part of your life easier. It is now
your task to create a new invention.
You are to create an advertisement for your invention either on paper or on the
computer that includes the following
a. The name of your invention
b. A brief explanation of what your invention does. What is its
purpose?
c. Why do we need this invention?
d. How much will it cost?
e. Where can it be purchased?
f. How many will be produced?
g. A picture of the item
Once completed, attach your advertisement to this assignment.
