LTI Basics Pavement Pound Pitch

What is a Shadow Day?

o A shadow day is a day spent at a workplace.

Why do we do a Shadow Day?
o Shadow days can help students find out more about their interests and see if the
organization and host are a good fit for a future LTI.

How can they lead to LTIs?
o Each student has requested a shadow site based on a personal interest. By being with an
adult who has the same interest, someone who knows a good deal about it, the student has
the opportunity to experience learning in a meaningful way.
o These adults can become your POTENTIAL mentor on site. Network with them and you
might have an internship.

What is a pitch?
o A pitch is a short explanation of who you are, where youre from, and what youre trying to
do and why. All under 20 seconds.

Who do we pitch to?
o We pitch to potential organizations we are interested in and want to spend a Shadow Day
at and hopefully get an internship at!

Example Pitch:
Hi, Im Kayla. Im a junior at Bronx Compass High School. At my school I am able to receive
credit for Real World Learning experiences, like going on Shadow Days or interning at
different organizations. Im interested in gaining more experience in the field of ________
aka athletics, womens rights, pet care_____ and I would love to have an opportunity to talk
with you or someone at your organization about how youre involved in ____field of
