ISIS Speech By: Nick Beck

Hello, my name is Nick Beck, and I am going to take a moment to educate

you about the group ISIS. Did you know that ISIS has killed over 5,500 people in
Iraq alone? That is nearly twice the population of Watkinsville.
The first topic that must be brought up when regarding ISIS is who they are.
ISIS is a terrorist group. They are also defined as an extremist group, a
group that believes in their own form of extreme religion, often a form of Islam.
The religion ISIS practices is a radical form of Islam.Their goal is to create a
caliphate, which is an Islamic state ruled by religious leaders. The leader of ISIS
will be the leader of the caliphate. That brings up the question, who is fighting for
ISIS? Currently, ISIS has over 20,000 militants fighting. All of these believe in the
radical form of Islam that ISIS practices. The fighters are defined as Jihadists, and
the leader is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a graduate from a university in Iraq with a
degree in Islamic studies. Jihadists are known as participators in a Jihad, a war
fought by Muslims to keep or spread their beliefs. Many of the captured soldiers
are forced to convert to Islam and fight for ISIS.
Now that I have explained to you who ISIS is, I will now explain its extensive
history.
ISIS began as a group that was part of Al-Qaeda. It is now known as a
splinter group, a small group that breaks away from a larger organization. When
ISIS was formed, Al-Qaeda was fighting for control with the new U.S. supported
Iraqi government. Its leader at that time was Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, but he was
killed in a U.S. operation in April of 2010. ISIS began its massive offensive in June
of 2014. Since then, they have taken over much land. This land consists of 100s of
square miles in northern and western Iraq and in Syria. They have even taken over
military bases and armories to boost their power.
In addition to its extensive history, ISIS has done many things to promote terror
One of the many things ISIS has done to promote terror is beheading
people. They have so far beheaded four westerners and are planning to
continue. These westerners are aid workers and journalists that were doing
their job in Iraq and Syria. However, ISIS captured them and killed them.
They have also performed public executions where they kill many people at
once. ISIS has even shared these gruesome acts on the internet to reach
more people.
In conclusion,
ISIS is menacing terror group that needs to be eradicated. ISIS is a powerful
extremist group with a large fighting force, has an extensive history, and has
performed many barbaric acts. Thank you.
