The Religion Curriculum P-12 involves four strands: Sacred Texts, Beliefs, Church and Christian Life. These strands are
interrelated and are taught in an integrated way, and in ways that are appropriate to specific local contexts.
In Prep, students learn about some Old Testament and New Testament stories that tell of a God of love, the creator of all,
the goodness of Gods creation, Gods special relationship with all of creation and Gods plan that people help each other to
live safely and happily together, for the good of all.
Students listen to, read and view stories of and about Jesus in the Gospels that tell of Jesus life as a Jew, his mother Mary,
his friends and family; of Jesus praying and teaching others to pray; of his teachings about love, compassion and
forgiveness that challenged people about the way they were living; and of his suffering, death and resurrection. They learn
that Christians believe God created people with the freedom to choose between good and bad, right and wrong. They
explore examples of times, from familiar texts and their personal experience, when people make these choices.
Students understand that prayer helps believers follow the teachings of Jesus; to live according to Gods plan. They learn
about ways in which believers pray, either alone or with others, including the Sign of the Cross and Amen. They observe
ways in which believers pray together during special celebrations and rituals that mark important times in the life of
believers and in the Church year. They learn about the Church building as a sacred place for believers and the Bible as a
sacred book for believers.
Achievement Standard
By the end of Prep, students communicate clearly their ideas, feelings and thoughts about God, the goodness of Gods
creation and Gods plan that people help each other to live safely and happily together, for the good of all. They identify
connections between some Old Testament stories and their personal experience, including the experience of the goodness
of creation. They listen and respond to stories of and about Jesus in the Gospels that tell of Jesus life as a Jew, his mother
Mary, his friends and family; of Jesus praying and teaching others to pray; and of his suffering, death and resurrection. They
recognise Jesus teachings about love, compassion and forgiveness that challenged people about the way they were living.
They relate examples of people having the freedom to choose between good and bad, right and wrong.
Students understand that prayer helps believers to follow the teachings of Jesus; to live according to Gods plan. They
recognise ways in which believers pray either alone or with others, using word, music, action, silence, images, symbols and

nature, and participate with respect in a variety of these prayer experiences, including meditative prayer, the Sign of the
Cross, and Amen. They describe ways in which believers pray together during special celebrations and rituals that mark
important times in the life of believers and in the Church year.

DRAMATISATION TO TELL THE STORY

GENESIS 1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Both arms make a big wide circle) The earth was barren with
no form of life (Hands waved crisscrossed over each other, palms down); It was under a roaring ocean covered with
darkness (Hands roly-poly). But the Spirit of God was moving over the water (2 Arms up vertically and crisscross
hands over each other and coming down gently).
The First Day
God said, I command light (hands opening/closing to represent light beams) to shine! And light started shining. God
looked at the light and saw that it was good (hands crossed over heart and then open up). He separated light from
darkness and named the light Day and the darkness Night. Evening came and then morning-that was the first day.
The Second Day
God said, I command a dome (Arm makes wide sweeping half circle action like a dome) to separate (hands split
apart) the water above it from the water below it. And thats what happened (Hands on waist, lean forward and nod).
God made the dome and named it Sky. Evening came and then morning-that was the second day.
The Third Day
God said, I command the water under the sky (Two arms up vertically then 2 arms come down (fingers together and
straight - palms face out) to come together (Hands crisscross over for (Come together) in one place, so there will be
dry ground. And thats what happened (Hands on waist, lean forward and nod). God named the dry ground Land, and
he named the water Ocean. God looked at what he had done and saw that it was good. God said, I command the earth to
produce all kinds of plants, including fruit trees and grain. And thats what happened. The earth produced all kinds of
vegetation. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. Evening came and then morning-that was the third day.
The Fourth Day
God said, I command lights (hands twinkle as stars) to appear in the sky and to separate day from night and to show the
time for seasons, special days, and years. I command them to shine forth on the earth. And thats what happened

(Hands on waist, lean forward and nod). God made two powerful lights, the brighter one to rule the day and the other to
rule the night. He also made the stars. Then God put these lights in the sky to shine on the earth, to rule day and night, and
to separate light from darkness. God looked at what he had done, and it was good (hands crossed over heart and then
open up). Evening came and then morning-that was the fourth day.
The Fifth Day
God said, I command the ocean to be full of living creatures, and I command birds to fly above the earth. So God made the
giant sea monsters and all the living creatures that swim in the ocean (make hands like a fish swimming). He also
made every kind of bird (make hand like a bird flying). God looked at what he had done, and it was good (Hands on
waist, lean forward and nod). Then he gave the living creatures his blessing (Arm out for blessing)-he told the ocean
creatures to live everywhere in the ocean and the birds to live everywhere on the earth. Evening came and then morningthat was the fifth day.
The Sixth Day
God said,I command the earth to give life to all kinds of tame (pat hand as if patting kitten) animals, wild animals (make
lion face and hand action as if to roar) , and reptiles, And thats what happened (Hands on waist, lean forward and
nod). God made every one of them. Then he looked at what he had done, and it was good (hands crossed over heart
and then open up). God said, Now we will make humans, and they will be like us. We will let them rule the fish, the birds,
and all other living creatures. So God created humans to be like himself; he made men and women (point to boys/girls).
God gave them his blessing (Arm up for blessing) and said: Have children! Fill the earth with people and bring take
responsibility for it. Care for the fish in the ocean, the birds in the sky, and every animal on the earth. I have provided all
kinds of fruit and grain for you to eat. And I have given the green plants as food for everything else that breathes. These will
be food for animals, both wild and tame, and for birds. God looked at what he had done. All of it was very good (Hands on
waist, lean forward and nod -Thumbs up)! Evening came and then morning-that was the sixth day. So the heavens and
the earth and everything else was created.
The Seventh Day

By the seventh day God had finished his work, and so he rested (Both hands joined together, place by the side of face
on cheeks, to represent rest/sleep). God blessed the seventh day and made it special because on that day he rested from
his work.
