Dear Mr. Boehner
Having been born in another country, and coming to America I know first-hand how
immigrants are treated in America. Most of the immigrants that are coming over to America
come for " the American dream, well that dream isn't so pretty and nice. Immigrants are being
treated as second class citizens in a country where its foundation is rooted in the principle of all
men are created equal". America was built on the backs of immigrant labor and fails to repay
them for their work. Immigrants are not giving fair pay; families are separated and are heavily
discriminated against. There needs to be immigration reforms sooner rather than later.
The minimum wages varies from five dollars to fifteen dollars in some states, but
immigrants are being paid less than that, they are given two or three dollars a day for hard work.
Immigrants in this country are the ones that are responsible for building our houses, fixing our
roofs and even farming the food that we eat, but yet the government seems to think that they
should not get paid like every other American does, on the bases that they are not "citizens". This
is unfair, immigrants do the work that other Americans themselves won't do, but they don't
receive proper compensation or recognition.
Laws at these moments seem to target immigrants in America the most. Having laws that
allow a police officer to ask someone at random for their papers doesn't seem correct to me.
Laws like those open the door for unfair racial profiling. Now because someone isn't "white" and
has a "Spanish accent" they can be stopped, and told to show that they are legal in America,
which has happened to me before. This leaves a bad taste in the mouths of everyone who gets
unfairly stopped, and leads to the mistrust in the police and in turn the government as a whole.
The mistreatment has gotten so bad that people live in a constant state of fear. This isn't
Correct penalize someone for where they come from or the color of the skin or even the language
they speak.
Immigration reform needs to happen now. Congress needs to work on passing laws that
will better the lives countless people. This issue seems to be put off and left on the sidelines that
need to be stop. America is the land of promise and hope, but its a shame that not everyone gets
to see that part of it. The American economy could benefit so much from immigrants being able

to be legal in this country. There are so many skilled workers being deported who could really
contribute to the growth of the country if only they were given equal and fair treatment. So I urge
you to vote for immigration reform now, and really honor the words, in the constitution all men
really created equal.
Sincerely,

Helen Padilla
