Methods of Evaluation:

The senior music program is


divided into 3 sections:

Vocal Skills: Demonstrate


properly executed diphthongs.
Aural Skills: Differentiate
between major, minor,
augmented, and diminished
triads.

Instrumental Music
Program
SLOs: Aural, technical,

theoretical, interpretive, and


performance skills. Form,
articulation, technique, history,
written, pitch, range, duration,
dynamics, terminology, and
rhythm

SLO Examples:

Written: the student will be


able to recognize and write all
major and minor key signatures
Rhythm: the students will be
able to recognize, write and
perform previously learned
patterns within a new context

General Music Program

SLOs: Specific learning outcomes are


organized into charts on the basis of five
conceptual elements and six skill areas.
Concepts consist of: rhythm, melody,
form, harmony, and expression
Skills consist of: singing, playing
instruments, moving, reading, listening, and
creating

SLO Examples:
Rhythm: #19. Rhythm is created by
combining beat, tempo, patterns, metre and
duration. (Understood by Grade 5 level)
Playing Instruments: #1. Explore the
sound of various musical instruments.
(Understood by Grade 1 level)
Harmony: #4. Major and minor chords
have different sounds (Understood by Grade 2
level)

To develop skills in listening, performing and


using notational systems.

help students to develop competencies and
to strive for excellence within the limits of
their individual capabilities, in the following
areas: Singing, Reading, Listening, Creating,
Valuing, and Playing

Methods of Evaluation: Playing short


solos in class, private performance, playing in
the ensemble, assignments, written tests,
students testing students, self-evaluation, and
taped evaluations

The secondary music program is divided into

Choral Music Program


SLOs: Vocal, Aural, Theoretical,
interpretive, and synthesis skills
SLO Examples:
Vocal
Skills: Demonstrate properly
formed vowels and consonants
(Understood by Level I) Aural
Skills: Sing ascending intervals
within the octave. (Understood by
Level II)

Instrumental Music
SLOs: Aural, technical, theoretical,
interpretive, and performance
skills. As well as form, articulation,
technique, pitch, range, duration,
dynamics, and terminology
SLO Examples:
Aural
Skills: Given the starting note,
echo a four-measure phrase on an
instrument or voice. Interpretive
Skills: Recognize that the phrase is
the musical equivalent of a
sentence.

General Music
Flexible program consisting of 7
modules concentrated on
performance, elements/ structure
and perspective
SLOs: Composing music, Music
notation, Artistic expression,
Historical perspective, ect.

SLO Examples:
Rudiments of Music: Name
notes on treble and bass clef
History: Identify different stylist
periods of time for music.
