Dear Danny Hunt,

You are my inspiration. You are the reason I am on the path I am on today. You gave me
my imagination through your incessant reading to me as a child.
I remember the day you read a story of the beach, and when you read to me I ventured to
my own world imagining the boy in the story walking toward the beach. I imagined myself in the
main characters position. I walked onto the old, wooden crosswalk, which lead to the sand. The
rough wood transitioned into sizzling, fluffy sand. Running through the dry sand to get to the
terrific waves had been my goal, but my attention broke, there was a red bucket. Straying from
my goal I pursued the red bucket. Playing with this bucket made me realize its ability to make
sand structures. Then lying in my bed, I would experience the ending of a descriptive journey,
and would begin to look forward until my next expedition to my own imagination the following
night.
My imagination was growing, but part of being literate is interpretation, when reading
one must be able to find the purpose for the story. You continued to read to me at night until the
tides changed and I began to read to you. Soon I came to the realization that all children stories
have a purpose, to invoke the imagination and teach morals. Goldilocks and the Three Bears, a
prime example, did both. The objective changed, it became the search for purpose. While reading
this childhood story I could imagine the temperature differences in the porridge that belonged to
each one of the bears. I put myself into their chairs and felt the differences in the sizes and the
way the smallest one broke under my weight. Aside from the purely descriptive elements of the
story I could derive a purpose at the ending of the story. Unknowingly to me I had begun my

journey to an ever increasing literacy, and the first time one can accurately interpret words brings
a basis to all other learning and imagination. At the age of five my understanding had only just
begun. Since my childhood consisted of highly descriptive stories and tall tales, my imagination
was unlocked, and it widened my interpretation of the text that I read today.

You helped produce my imagination from the stories he read that invoked my senses, and
when you read, a new world entirely consumed me. In this place words translated into sounds,
smells, textures, visions, and tastes. How could a piece of paper with black words envelope such
emotion? __Words can be used to describe an odorous object to accurately recount a specific
aroma. Texture, the feeling of how something feels, can be observed using the sense of touch.
Have you ever seen a work of art that portrays an object beautifully? With the words my father
used he could compose a picture in my mind that could go beyond the simple scenery, and give
precise details like how vibrantly green the sharp, wet grass really appeared. The words of
description with the power of the imagination could easily produce a work of art in ones mind,
like it did mine. A culinary reviewer makes their money by using their judgment of fine tastes
and the descriptive words in a language. To this day I still admire you for contributing your time
to help me become the literate man I am today.

Your son,
Zachary Hunt
