A Narration from our Prophet (may Allah bestow peace and blessings upon him) about Suleyman
(upon him peace) about the origins of roots and records of their benefits.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (may Allah bestow peace and
blessings upon him) said, “Suleyman ibn Dawood (upon them peace) would pray and see the seeds
of a tree and asked, “What is its name? What are its benefits?” If it was to be planted then it was
planted and if it was a cure then it was recorded. (Al-Hakim and Al-Tabarani.)

Umm Qais narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bestow peace and blessings upon him)
said, “Do you know the cure for your children from this aliment? Use Oud Al-Hindi (Indian Oud)
because in it is seven cures for sciatica that is inhaled from the throat and causes sciatica.” (Agreed
upon).
Imam Al-Nawawi said, “It obstructs whatever illness in the heart. The doctors disagree that the
treatment for sciatica with Quast as its humidity is extremely dangerous.
Quast (stiffness) is two types: one is white called Al-Bahri and the other is Al-Hindi and this is wrong
and the darker is lighter; Marr Al-Madaaq. These are two hot and dry things at the second level. Al-
Hindi is severely warm; they are both cures for phlegm which is in the head; severer of cold; if it is
drunk then it benefits weak liver and stomach and they are cold. Quast Al-Ibyad has two extremely
beneficial for weakness in old age.
The Prophet (may Allah bestow peace and blessings upon him) would eat moist dates with water
melon and say, “The heat of this is repelled by this; it is repelled by the heat of this.” (At-Tirmidhi
and Abu Dawood).
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (may Allah bestow peace and
blessings upon him) said, “Fever is from the stench of hell so cool it by water.” (Ibn Majah)
Treatments
Some bedouins came and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, shall we seek a cure?” he replied, “Yes, O
servants of Allah, seek a cure because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has not placed an illness without
placing a cure and there is no cure for one thing.” He asked, “What is that?” He replied, “Old age.”
Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may
Allah bestow peace and blessings upon him) said, “Allah has not created illness without placing its
cure. He knows it knows it and he does not know does not know; except saam and saam is death.”
(Ibn Majah)
Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (may Allah bestow
peace and blessings upon him) said, “Every illness has a cure; so when taking the cure the illness is
removed by the permission of Allah. (Muslim).
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (may Allah bestow peace
and blessings upon him) said, “Allah did sent an illness without sending its cure.” (Al-Bukhari).
Umm Dharda (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (may Allah bestow peace
and blessings upon him) said, “Allah has created illnesses and remedies, so seek the cure and do not
seek it by the unlawful.” (Abu Dawood)
Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (may Allah bestow peace
and blessings upon him) said, “Allah has not created the cure, for my nation, in what is unlawful for
it.” (Abu Dawood).
Wail ibn Hajjar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Tariq ibn Sawid asked the Prophet
(may Allah bestow peace and blessings upon him) about wine he forbid it and its production, he
(Tariq) said, “It is made for a cure.” He replied. “It is not a cure rather it is the illness.” (Muslim)
In another narration it is reported that a man said to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bestow
peace and blessings upon him), “According to us we extract a treatment from it.” He said, “Is it an
intoxicant?” he said, “Yes.” He said, “It is the illness and it is not a cure.” (Muslim)
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bestow
peace and blessings upon him) forbade the usage of all impure cures like poison and so on.” (Abu
Dawood)
Ibn Athir said, “Cure from impure substances are from faeces, unlawful meat and urine.”
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bestow peace and blessings upon him) said, “Whoever treats
someone and does not know medicine then he is responsible.” (Abu Dawood)
Anis (may Allah be pleased with him) said he heard the Messenger (may Allah bestow peace and
blessings upon him) said, “The cure of sciatica is in the back of the Arabian sheep liquefied then
separated into three parts which is then drunk every day.” Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) I
described this to three hundred people and all of them were cured by Allah. (Ibn Majah –Sahih)
