Naming Shapes

Resources

iMovie, Visuals,

Standard

This lesson plan will fulfill the LPS standard

for math under the objective of basic
shapes. After this lesson students will be
able to name and describe basic shapes.

Introduction

This lesson will allow the understanding of

basic shapes.

Technology Uses/Materials

Students will use paper and crayons to

draw the shapes they learned in the
iMovie.

Objectives

Objective 1: Teach them the square,

circle, triangle, and rectangle.
Objective 2: Take the paper and crayons to
practice drawing the shapes they learned
in the video.
Objective 3: Have students point out
shapes that can be found in the classroom
(ex. Circle, Clock).

Preparing the Student

To prepare for this lesson you will need to

help the students understand that shapes
are important and that they can be found
everywhere.

Assessment of Student Learning

Students will be learning through the

stages of Blooms Taxonomy:
Create: Students will use what they
have learned from the iMovie about
shapes to practicing drawing
shapes and identifying them around
the classroom.

Evaluate: Students will evaluate

their own work, and compare their
shapes with other students.
Analyze: Students will analyze the
information learned to draw shapes.
Apply: Students will apply what they
have learned practice drawing the
shapes, and then recognize and
identify shapes around the
classroom.
Understand: Students must
understand these shapes to identify
them, and how different shapes can
make up different objects.
Remember: Students will need to
remember the key characteristics
about each shape.
Overall, students will learn by doing. They
will practice drawing and identifying the
shapes after they learn them by viewing
the video.

Measurement of Success

Students in kindergarten will watch

an iMovie to learn about the key
characteristics that will help them to
identify shapes.
Students will be given a piece of
paper and crayons to be guided
through drawing the shapes they
just learned from the iMovie.
After guided practice, each student
will be asked to draw each shape.
Once the students have had
practice drawing these shapes they
will then identify shapes around the
classroom.

Success in this project will be measured on

how well they can draw and later identify
the shapes that they learned. This project
will be useful because shapes are
something that they will use for the rest of

their lives, and need to understand for

future lessons.
