The Royal Law and the

Ceremonial Law
Should Christians keep the Sabbath?

THE ROYAL LAW AND THE CEREMONIAL LAW

Chapter 1
The Law
The Law, when we say these words we rarely specify which to which body of
law we are referring. As a result we open ourselves up to many apparent
contradictions, for example; Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the
enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make
in himself of twain one new man, so making peace... This scripture would
seem to contradict: Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law,
or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. So, was the law
abolished or not? How about another example; Galatians 3:17 And this I say,
that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which
was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make
the promise of none effect. The Ten Commandments existed long before
Abraham, and examples of them are found prior to Exodus chapter Thirty two,
where God gave Moses the two tables of stone (see: Ge. 2:3 (Sabbath), 4:8
(murder), 12:12-19 (adultery), 31:19-34 (stealing) Ex. 18:20 (covetousness)).
Exodus 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from
heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every
day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no., as stated
earlier the two tables of stone were not given until Exodus chapter 31. Other
examples include: Heb 7:16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal
commandment, but after the power of an endless life, and Ro 7:14 For we
know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
It should be obvious the only way to reconcile these apparent discrepancies,
is to discover through the context of each scripture which body of law is being
discussed. Mt 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one
jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. A very
common response to this scripture is Well, Jesus fulfilled the law on the cross
a point not in dispute, however, what body of law is this scripture referring to?
Since Heaven and Earth have not passed then the body of law in reference
must not have been changed by Jesus death on the cross. The law
associated with the priesthood, commonly known as the Ceremonial Law,
was change with Jesus death on the cross, Hebrews 7:12 For the priesthood
being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. The
answer is in verse twenty-one of the same chapter; Matthew 5:21 Ye have
heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever
shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment... Thou shalt not kill is part of the
Ten Commandments that were written with the finger of God; Deuteronomy
9:10 And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the
finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the
LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the
assembly. Deuteronomy 4:13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which

he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them

upon two tables of stone.
The following chart compares two of the bodies of law:
The Royal Law (aka The Law of God
written with the finger of God)

The Ceremonial Law (aka The

Law of God written with the
hand of Moses or the Law of
Ordinance)

As you can see, the scriptures are in complete harmony and the reader must
discern through the context which body of law is the subject of a given
scripture.
So why is all this important? From the chart, it can see that one body of law
has been changed or abolished and the other body of law shall out last
Heaven and Earth. It is the enduring body of law, the Ten Commandments or
the Royal Law, which will be topic of the next chapter.

Chapter 2
The Ten Commandments
Ask the typical Christian today if murder or stealing or adultery is sin and they
will probably say yes, but then if you ask the same Christian if he keeps the
Sabbath, then he or she will tell you Oh, that was part of the old Jewish law
which was abolished when Jesus died of the cross. Can a Christian please
God by keeping the Nine Commandments? James writes: Jas 2:8 If ye
fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself, ye do well:
Jas 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced
of the law as transgressors.
Jas 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point,
he is guilty of all.
Jas 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if
thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the
law. For further information on how to love thy neighbor as thyself please
refer to commandments 5-10.
I recently saw a video on You Tube in which the narrator states, Although
God establishes the Sabbath in the book of Genesis, he never commands
anyone to keep it. It should be noted that God never commanded anyone to
not kill one and other in the book of Genesis either, but consider Cains
response to God having inquired about his brothers whereabouts, it is more
than obvious that Cain knew that he had done something wrong. Ro 5:13 (For
until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
1Jo 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the
transgression of the law. If we say The Law has been abolished, and if we
include the The Ten Commandments when we say The Law, then we no
longer have the capacity to sin. If we no longer have the capacity to sin, then
what are we to repent of before being baptized? Why would we even need
Jesus? Of course The Law that is The Ten Commandments have not been
abolished according to Mat. 5:18-21. Gal 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the
law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to
whom the promise was made... Wait a minute! The law was added because of
transgressions? What transgressions? According to 1John 3:4 and Rom
5:13, if there is no law then there is no sin. Therefore Gal 3:19 is either a
contradictory statement or it is referring to two different bodies of law, one
existing before the other. Gal 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was

confirmed before of God in Christ, law the, which was four hundred and thirty
years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
The Law that Ga 3:19 is referring to, was 430 years after Gods promise to
Abraham.
Most Christians would agree to keep nine of the Ten Commandments, but
what about the fourth commandment? If you are asking yourself which
commandment is the fourth? then you have broken it. God commands us to
remember, ring a bell? The one commandment God specifically commands us
to remember, we are encouraged in our churches to forget. Further more, we
are taught to observe another day despite the fact that there is not a single
word in the Bible authorizing this change. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's
day Rev 1:10 is often quoted to show that there was a change, but every
time this writer has pointed out that nowhere in that passage is a day of the
week mentioned, therefore the reader can only rely on prior Bible passages
such as; Isa 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing
thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the
LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him Mt 12:8 For the Son of man is
Lord even of the sabbath day, or how about the commandment itself; Ex 20:8
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Ex 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Ex 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou
shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor
thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Ex 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all
that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the
sabbath day, and hallowed it. There are many more verses that leave no
doubt which day of the week is the Lords Day.
But what about Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink,
or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days...
Which body of law this scripture referring to, the Ceremonial law or the Royal
law? Deut 31:24 And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of
writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
Deut 31:25 That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the
covenant of the LORD, saying,
Deut 31:26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the
covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against
thee. Compare this to Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that
was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it
to his cross... Notice that it is the book written by the hand of Moses that was
blotted out and not the tables of stone written with the finger of God. But did
the ceremonial law have Sabbaths? Lev 23:6 And on the fifteenth day of the
same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye
must eat unleavened bread.
Lev 23:7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no
servile work therein. Ex 12:15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread;
even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever

eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall
be cut off from Israel.
Ex 12:16 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the
seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work
shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be
done of you. So as you can see, the ceremonial law did have Sabbaths, and it
was these Sabbaths, which were connected to the new moons, and feast
days that were blotted out on the cross.
Still some will argue that keeping the Sabbath is somehow salvation by
works, and they will quote; Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the
works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in
Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the
works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. The
Ceremonial law obviously requires a great deal of work, in fact, it is described
as bondage, Gal 4:21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not
hear the law?
Gal 4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid,
the other by a freewoman.
Gal 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he
of the freewoman was by promise.
Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the
one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem
which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth
and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than
she which hath an husband.
Gal 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
Gal 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was
born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
Gal 4:30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and
her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the
freewoman.
Gal 4:31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the
free. On the other hand, the Royal law, which is the Ten Commandments,
does not require any work. Think about it, which one of the Ten
Commandments requires any work, at least any work of the hands? The Ten
Commandments are spiritual; Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but
to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject
to the law of God, neither indeed can be, Rom 7:14 For we know that the
law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. I can keep the Ten
Commandments with both hands tied behind my back, but I cant keep the
Ceremonial law even with a hand from every other living person. This work
can only be accomplished by God, which he did accomplish during his time on

Earth and on the cross John 5:36 But I have greater witness than that of
John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works
that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. As far as my
salvation is concerned, there is no work left for me to do. I keep the Ten
Commandments because I have been saved and not in order to be saved. In
fact, I could not keep the Ten Commandments if I had not been saved
because the Ten Commandments are spiritual, so until I was born again of the
spirit it was impossible for me to worship God in the spirit, John 4:23 But the
hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father
in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 3:6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is
spirit.
John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Chapter 3
The Faith
Rom. 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not
before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was
counted unto him for righteousness. 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not
reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him
that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness
Gal. 3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among
you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 6 Even as
Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. 7 Know ye
therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
Jas. 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it
was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Do you see a recurring message? Believed God, Believeth on him, is counted
as righteousness. So what are the results of not Believing God? If Adam and
Eve had believed God instead of the serpent, then they would not have been
kicked out of the garden because of sin for they would not have sinned. The
children of Israel would not have fashioned a calf while Moses tarried on the
mount. Which brings up another interesting point, and that is, if the Ten
Commandments were not in effect before Moses brought them down from the
mountain, then how could the children of Israel be guilty of breaking the first
and second commandments? Remember Rom. 5:13 (For until the law sin was in
the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. If todays professing
Christians (Three billion plus) had believed God, then God would not have
needed to send an angel to tell them whom to worship. Re 14:6 And I saw

another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto
them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Re 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his
judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and
the fountains of waters. Who is he that made heaven earth and the sea? Ex
20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do
any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant,
nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Ex 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in
them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and
hallowed it. Mt 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that
was made. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth. If it is still not clear, then the seer (prophet) Ezekiel makes it 20/20, Eze.
20:20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye
may know that I am the LORD your God. If they had believed God about false
christs, Mt 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man
deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall
deceive many. Mt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into
the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy
name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful
works?
Mt 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that
work iniquity. After all, who would call Jesus Lord? Hindus, Muslims, pagans?
1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his
commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the
truth is not in him. Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that
keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. If professing Christians
believed God, then they would not give up their gift of salvation, Rev 22:19 And
if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall
take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things
which are written in this book. Whose names are written in the Book of Life, the
saved or the unsaved? For those who would argue that God the Father gave
us the Ten Commandments and they refer to John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and
now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for
the Father seeketh such to worship him, I remind them that the Father is the Son
and refer them to, Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the

government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Chapter 4
Who Do You Serve?
You might say you love the Lord, but which one do you serve? Have you been
deceived into serving a false Christ? Rom. 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye
yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of
sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? After forty years of Bible
study (I started at age 8), the Lord has only recently revealed to me that,
one cannot physically keep the Law of God, that one can only physically
break the Law of God. As mentioned earlier, the Law of God is spiritual
(Rom. 7:14 & 8:7) and therefore cannot be kept by the flesh. However, to
break the Law of God I must perform some physical act, such as stealing,
killing, bearing false witness, etc. Eureka!!! Thats how you worship in the
spirit by binding the flesh. Deut. 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God
with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them
when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou
liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as
frontlets between thine eyes. So if you have been born again, that is of the
spirit, then you can keep the Law of God with both hands tied behind your
back.
In scripture, the hands often represent our actions and the frontlets
between thine eyes (our foreheads) represents our thoughts. Here is an
example of what the previous statement can prevent; I went to church on
Sunday (actions) because I thought (thoughts) it was the Sabbath. Rev.
14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man
worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his
hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out
without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire
and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have
no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever
receiveth the mark of his name.

12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of
God, and the faith of Jesus. I hope you were sitting when you read that last
passage, now you should know what the mark of the beast is. Re 13:16
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a
mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: Do you serve the same Jesus
you trusted for your salvation, or do you serve one of the false christs that
Jesus warned of in Matt. 24: 4 & 5, remember Romans 6: 16? You are the
servants to whom you obey. What about once saved always saved? Heb
10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth,
there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, and then there is Rev. 22:19 And if
any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall
take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the
things which are written in this book. Whos names would you find in the
Lambs Book of Life? The saved or the unsaved? The Sabbath is the
seventh day of the week, which begins at sunset Friday and ends at sunset
Saturday. Jesus is the Lord of this Sabbath! Who do you serve?
