For my industry I am doing the logging industry.

The logging industry is known

as the cutting, skidding, on-site processing, and loading of trees and logs. The
term logging is sometimes used in a narrow sense concerning the moving of wood
from the stump to somewhere outside the forest. When getting logs, heavy
equipment is used to gather the logs from the site and move them close to the
road to be moved to trucks.
The safety problems of logging is a dangerous situation. In the United States,
it has been consistently been one of the most hazardous industries. During 2008,
the logging industry employed 86,000 workers, and accounted for 93 deaths. One
death per 100,000 workers that year. This rate is 30 times higher than the overall
fatality rate. Also an injured logger is often far from professional emergency
treatment.
In the logging industry there are many different ways of logging. There is clearcutting which is a method a harvesting that removes essentially all the standing
trees in an area. A clear-cut may or may not reserve trees left in a standing area.
Another method is tree-length logging. In this method trees are felled and then
de-imbed and topped at the stump. The log is then transported to the landing,
where it is bucked and loaded on a truck. This leaves the slash [ and the nutrients
it contains] in the area where then the wood is further treated encase wildfires
are a major concern.
The next method is whole-tree logging. This is when trees and plants are felled
and transported to the roadside with top limbs upward. There have been many
advances to the process which now allows a logger or harvester to cut the tree
down, top and de-limb a tree in the same process. This method requires that slash
be treated at the landing. The last method Ill talk about is cut-to-length logging.
Its the process of de-limbing, bucking, and sorting. Leaving the limbs and tops in
the forest, harvesters fell the tree then de-limb and then buck the tree. Then
finally place the resulting logs in banks to be brought to the landing skidder or
forwarder.
This is the transportation of the logs. The trees are generally transported to a
sawmill to be cut into lumber or, to a paper mill for paper pulp. Many methods

are used to move trees where they were cut to a rail line or directly to a saw mill
or paper mill. The cheapest and historically most common method is using
downstream, by either log-driving or timber rafting. I thought that the process of
lumber moving and the parts to logging. I think this process is really interesting
and I would like to learn more about logging.
