The bronchioles
are tubes in the
lungs through
which air passes to
the alveoli.
Bronchioles branch
of the the bronchi,
and are part of the
conducting zone of
the respiratory
system.
They
predominately
consist of smooth
muscle lined with
epithelium.

contains the upper
esophageal sphincter
(UES), which is a bundle
of muscles at the top of
the esophagus. The
muscles of the UES are
under conscious control,
used when breathing,
eating, belching, and
vomiting. They keep food
and secretions from
going down the windpipe.
