PS III Professional Goals

Goal #1

Continued improvement on classroom management skills to

enhance efficiency and optimal learning.

Rationale

Classroom management in physical education is absolutely crucial

in order to ensure safety and also to promote a positive learning
environment. Classroom management will also be very important
in high school classes to ensure high engagement and productive
learners.
Set up solid classroom procedures, policies, and routines so
students have a clear perception of what is expected out of them.
It is equally important to establish solid relationships with the
students and emphasize the importance of mutual respect. Smooth
transitions will also be crucial for effective classroom
management. In addition to these I plan to have my teacher
mentor come and observe me and give me feedback and
suggestions.
Fewer behavior issues, high student achievement, involvement,
and engagement. Students are not talking when I am taking and
are aware of the routines and procedures.

Goal #2

Get involved in extracurricular activities, specific to athletics.

Rationale

Further my professional development by getting the full physical

education teacher experience by coaching and getting involved
with sporting/extracurricular activities. Inspire students to be as
passionate about athletics.

Strategies

Look for opportunities around the school and talk to the athletic
director about possible coaching or extra curricular positions.

Being either an assistant coach or coach of a sporting team,

intramurals, or involved in score keeping, clothing etc.

Goal #3
Rationale

Strategies

Establish positive relationships with the students and staff at

Picture Butte High School as well as the community.
To ensure the classroom has a positive atmosphere, establish
mutual respect, and be able to relate the content to the students
personal interests. Be aware of programs and people in the
community so I can relate that to the students/curriculum.
Talk with students inside and outside of the classroom, interact
with the staff and ask to observe some of their classes, go to
extracurricular activities that students are involved in. Attend
community events.

classroom environment is highly interactive, mutual respect
between teacher and student is clearly established.

Summary:
Goal #1- Continued improvement on classroom management skills to enhance
efficiency and optimal learning
I feel I was successful in achieving this goal. Although very challenging at times,
my grade 9 Physical Education class allowed my to implement new classroom
management techniques such as wait time, reinforcing appropriate behavior, and
using higher level responses. I also made an effort to get to know each individual to
help establish a positive classroom environment and foster mutual respect. I feel I
was successful in improving my classroom management skills and that my teaching
became more effective and student learning became more efficient.
Goal #2- Get involved in extracurricular activities, specific to athletics
I definitely got the full physical education teacher experiences here at Picture
Butte High School. I got involved with organizing and implementing intramurals,
coached Junior High Varsity Boys Basketball, and coached High School Senior Girls
Basketball. I also volunteered my time by taking pictures at the High School

volleyball tournament and helped facilitate the Junior High volleyball tournament. I
feel I was highly successful in achieving this goal.
Goal #3- Establish positive relationships with the students and staff at Picture
Butte High School as well as the community.
Being involved in extra-curricular activities really helped me to establish
relationships with staff and students at Picture Butte High School. The staff was
appreciative when I was available to cover their classes and I always went out of my
way to say hello to fellow teachers. The staff at Picture Butte High School often
described me as positive, outgoing, and friendly. I took time to speak with
individual students about their interests and hobbies and they would often come
talk to me about personal issues. It truly made my day when I would see a student in
the hall and theyd yell WIEBE and give me a high-five. I felt that I opened
communication with the parents by calling home for successes and areas of
improvement. Overall, I feel I met this goal and am hopeful these relationships will
live longer then just my practical semester.
