WAAA News Cast-Sharks and Thanksgiving
Introduction
Good afternoon, Im your top news anchor Aly Chapple here at WAAA news. Today
youre getting the latest stories on todays weather with Amanda Miller, competitive shooting
with sports reporter Amanda Hollar, and the United Way foundation with field reporter Anne
Goble, but before all that Im giving you the latest on just whats going on in South Carolinas
waters and how you can have your home craft ready just in time for Thanksgiving!
I.

Body
One of todays top stories is about sharks off the coast of South Carolina.
Show Shark Slides
A. Recently in South Carolina a group of researchers from the University of
South Carolina discovered a new species of hammerhead shark that according
to CNN has been named the Carolina hammerhead (Fantz, 2013).
B. You can see in the pictures the Carolina hammerhead and the scalloped
hammerhead look like the same shark (Fantz, 2013).
1. The Carolina hammerhead took some time to discover due to it looking so
similar to the scalloped hammerhead shark.
2. Though you may not be able to see the difference in the two sharks just by
looking at them, they greatly differ on the inside, this new Carolina
hammerhead has 10 fewer segments of backbone, or what experts may call
vertebras, than the scalloped hammerhead according to live science (Main,
2013).
C. There has been a major decline in shark population in the last few decades due
to the Chinese demand for shark fin soup (Fantz, 2013).
1. This could also be a reason for it taking so long to discover the new breed
of shark.
2. The soup has started to be less consumed by about 50% within the past
two years, now we can hope for many more years for the sharks (Fantz,
2013)!

Another one of todays top stories is how to get your home ready for
Thanksgiving

B. All these decorations are very classy and will look great around any home.
C. For those of you looking for more simple and fun for the family crafts,
another great place to look for ideas is the thecraftycrow.net where you can
find all kinds of fun and simple things to do with the family.

1. One example is this name place leaf that you can tell just by looking at it
was made so easily (Crafts and Activities, 2013).
a. It was made with little cost.
b. Its also cute and fun for all the younger children at the dinner table.
2. These ideas and many more can be found on various online sites and just
in time for the holidays.

Introduction
Thank you Ally. Can you believe it is only the eleventh of November and according to
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Indiana has already broken twenty-one
and tied one precipitation records for the month of November (Sullivan, 2013). I will talk about
an amazing typhoon in the Philippines after we discuss our weather here in New Castle, Indiana.
We will check on the radar, pollen counts, and a check into the Farmers Almanac.

C. A typhoon is in the Philippines (Sunshine, 2013). Slides 5-9
Conclusion

As you can see there is some extravagant weather going on right now. I am glad we are
not experiencing horrible weather in Indiana right now. The his and los for the day and the
extended forecast are what is expected of our wonderful Indiana weather.

Youth and Adult Shooting Competitions

Introduction
Everybody enjoys a sport of some sort. However, today I am not talking about football,
basketball or even baseball. Today its all about shooting competitions. Children and adults of all
ages compete in shooting competitions (Dinbreezy, 2013).

Shooting Competitions are enjoyable for children.

A. Many children take part in the sport.
B. The youngest competitive level for boys starts at six years old.
C. The youngest competitive level for girls starts at nine years old.

(Transition: Youve heard about the children who take part in this sport. Now lets learn more
about the adults.)
II.

Shooting Competitions are enjoyable for adults.

A. Adults may enjoy the sport more than children.
B. Show Slide 2 Jerry Miculek is one of the most well-known shooting competitors
(Miculek, 2013).
1. Has been shooting competitively for more than 30 years.
2. He became a member of Team Smith and Wesson in 1989 (hotshots, 2011).
3. He has won 52 National titles.
4. He has demonstrated firearms on multiple television shows such as: Top Shot,
Sharpshooter, Extreme Marksman, Sons of Guns, and Shooting USA
(HeyYouItsMyTube, 2009). Show Slide 3
C. Some other shooting competition sponsors are Ruger, Remington, and Hornaday.
D. Shooters sometimes form teams, and sometimes shoot alone and take on the
world so to speak.
1. Teams can be up to four people.
2. Most of the teams are non-profit organizations and enjoy donating to charities
for people in need.
Conclusion

Shooting competitions are held all over the world. They sometimes feature many
different ages and cultures coming together, including members of the military forces. Many
children and adults of all ages enjoy competitive shooting, so you may want to give this sport a
try.

United Fund Day of Caring

Introduction
Thank you Amanda Hollar. That report was right on target. WAAA! This is Anne Goble, your
reporter on the go. Weve all heard of the United Way right? The Central Indiana chapter has
been serving its communities for over 90 years (SmallBox, 2013). Well, I am reporting to you
live today, from the Henry County United Fund Office on Race Street in New Castle. Show Slide
1 I am here today to speak with Kimberly Kilgore, who is the Funds executive director. She
recently organized and held her second Day of Caring. The Day of Caring has been the Countys
biggest, annual, volunteer project for the last twenty years (Employees of, 2013). It benefits
Henry County in two major ways: through the completion of meaningful, local projects and by
promoting volunteerism among its citizens. Show Slide 2

The United Funds Day of Caring benefits Henry County through the
completion of meaningful projects.
A. 58 projects were completed (Unpublished Interview, 2013).
B. Cleaning, painting, and building projects were completed (Unpublished
Interview, 2013).
C. A ramp for a disabled three year-old was the directors favorite project this
year (Mayoral Letter, 2013). Show Slide 3

The United Funds Day of Caring benefits Henry County by promoting

volunteerism.
A. 722 volunteers took part in the last Day of Caring (Unpublished Interview,

B. The Day of Caring raises awareness of needs within the community.
C. Once someone helps out they are more likely to continue to volunteer.
