Teaching Methodology Used: Child Centered
Description of Instruction
1. Read the story Flowers by Vijaya Khisty Bodach. Talk about different types of
plants and flowers that are in the book and that they are actually things we can find
outside.
2. Take students for a walk outside to find different plants and flowers. Before going
outside explain to the students that they will need to choose one plant that they
interested in and I will take a picture of it. Tell the students that they are going to
be describing their plant/flower through writing on a piece of paper. As we are
walking outside tell the students that they can smell the plants/flowers and touch
them with gentle hands. Also, as we are walking I will be describing different
flowers and plants to the students that way they know what they are looking for.
Once all the students have found a plant and I have taken a picture of their plant
we will go back into the classroom.
Next day:
3. I will show the students a picture of my flower/plants that I choose. And I will read
them my description so they know what they are supposed to do.
4. I will have printed all the pictures of the flower/ plants out for all the students, and I
will give each of them their plant. Once all the students have their picture they are

going to have to draw their flower/plant and write about it. They can talk about
how it smells, how it felt or what it looks like.
5. Everyone is going to get a chance to share their flower/plant that they found with
the class.

Assessment
Formative:
Check list to make sure the students pick a flower/plant to observe.
Summative:
I will assess the students final product or the picture that they draw and the description of
the flower/plant that they come up with.
