EDUCATIONAL VISION
At Freeland Community School District, students will experience curriculum and instruction that is challenging and
rigorous. Students will see relevance in what they are learning, through purposeful instructional design and motivated
teachers. Professional development for staff members will cultivate a climate of life-long learning for every individual,
staff or student, at Freeland. Continuing to work toward a climate and culture in which high levels of learning and
engagement are at the center of every decision made. This will occur through sound differentiated practices, goal setting
and collaboration. As a result, Freeland will see an increase in student achievement for all students, in all areas.
PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Eager to cultivate a culture of learning for staff and students. Five years of experience at the middle school level, and additional
experience at the high school level as a teacher leader in each building; leading educators through professional learning
opportunities and research based instructional design to continue to develop ways to engage students and challenge them
academically.

English Teacher, 2014-present
Engaged in highly effective instructional design through differentiated units, the implementation of the Common Core State
Standards, and the use of formative assessments to guide and change instruction as needed to meet students needs.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure students are being challenged academically.
- Utilizes multi-tiered levels of support and interventions to address challenging behaviors, and academic needs in the
classroom.
- Stands out as a teacher leader, willing to share knowledge on best research based practices when it comes to curriculum

Global Studies Teacher, 2009-2014
Challenged as a teacher leader to support staff members in the implementation of standards based grading practices, and to guide
staff members through the process of adopting the Common Core State Standards (Iowa Core). Modeled highly effective instruction
for staff, and encouraged staff members to observe and evaluate highly effective classrooms on a regular basis.
- Problem solved with staff members on how to better differentiate in their classroom to meet the needs of all students.
- Engaged in training around best practices in education, and shared this learning with other staff members.
- Active member of the Instructional Leadership Team for Southview Middle School. Had the responsibility of planning and
presenting professional development for staff. Instructional leaders were also expected to engage in conflict management
conversations with professional learning communities to help staff work with one another productively and effectively.
- Supported staff members as they implemented standards based grading practices, and shifted away from a traditional
instructional model, toward a highly differentiated model in which individualized learning, formative assessments and
developing learning progressions based on skills and standards were at the center of instructional design.
- Engaged in research projects through the Teacher Quality Initiative in the state of Iowa. Researched how to help students
at the 6-12 level become excited and curious learners again. Baseline research and observation was done to determine
where and how students lost an interest in the learning process at the 6-12 level. Observations were done at progressive
elementary and middle school settings in Des Moines, Iowa. As a result of the research, an action plan was implemented in

the 2013-14 school year, which resulted in an increase in student engagement, and an increase in proficiency and growth
scores on state wide standardized assessments.
Southview Middle School, (Grade 8), Ankeny, IA
Teacher Mentor 2013-2014
- Met on a regular basis with a new teacher at Southview Middle School to guide, mentor and encourage him in his first two
years as a teacher. Assisted in problem solving strategies with him when it came to staff and student conflicts, and
provided various research based strategies for him to use in the classroom. Several teacher walk-throughs and
observations were done to encourage collaboration, and to continue to model sound instruction for the mentee.

Worked with a media center specialist at Southview Middle School to design a presentation using E-Books and MackinVia software
for more than forty social studies teachers in the Des Moines metro area.
