Vision loss can be caused by eye problems

that are present from birth.

By conditions that appear later on in life, such

as development of sight loss over the years or
serious accidents to the eyes.

Or by infections or environmental factors.

To go along with the description, here are

some examples of the causes;
Head Injury
Diabetic Retinopathy (damaged blood vessels
of the retina)
Glaucoma (damage in the optic nerves)
Retinal Detachment, Brain Aneurysm,
Cataracts etc.

The International Blind Sports Federation

(IBSA) was founded in Paris in 1981 as a nonprofit-making organization.
Its status as a legal organization was
formalised in 1985 with the adoption of its
first Constitution during a general assembly.
IBSA is fully incoherence with the
International Paralympic Committee (IPC),
the overall governing body for the Paralympic
Games to be exact.

IBSA's main aim is to organise sports

competitions and activities where blind and
partially sighted can compete in equal
conditions with their peers.
For IBSA it is essential that the visually
impaired sports movement has its own
identity and there is an international
federation working to promote sports
specifically for blind and partially sighted
boys, girls, men and women.

To foster friendship among blind athletes.

To motivate and get as many blind people as
possible involved in sporting activities on a
regular basis.
To plan, promote and coordinate
international events and activities with a view
to stimulating greater development of
sporting programmes for the blind in every
country, including international sports
meetings, seminars and conferences on
questions related to sports for the blind.
