Amerindians gathered
together in Washington
to take part in a protest
called the
Trail of Broken

Treaties

1973
A group armed with
rifles occupied the
site of the Battle of
Wounded Knee.
Their aim was to
claim for the return of
the lands unjustly
taken away.

Other Amerindians sued the United States

government in court for breaking the law
and demanded the return of the Black Hills.

The court decided on their favor and

awarded them with money but they did not
accepted.
