We will have this table up against the wall with the GVSU banner behind it. There will
be a stack of gear that adventure tourists would use (backpack, ski gear, snowboard,
scuba, cowboy boots, etc.) They will then post it on a social media site with our hashtag.
This will up our online presence; however, it will also appear on the individuals
timelines and would then attract their friends as well.
4. How many internships do you need to graduate?
There will be students at this table with personal experiences in an HTM focuses
internships. This will provide students with personal stories on what students took away
from their internships.
5. What job can you pursue with a tourism emphasis?
For this table we plan to have the pumpkin board posted below. Each face of the cups
will have Tourism Careers on it. The individual will poke the tissue and inside will be a
piece of paper with a potential career on it. We will have two boards, one in the shape of
a pumpkin (as can be seen below) and one in the shape of a leaf to coincide with our fall
theme. The budget that was picked for the event allotted us $115 for theming and $50 for
contingency. We hope to be able to fit 1 more poster board into our decorations budget,
tissue paper under decorations or contingency, if needed, and either use extra cups from
the decorations budget or use a little from the contingency money that was left. We
would like to use 22 cups for the pumpkin game, which would mean we would spend $2
for 24 cups and maximum $19 on 400 ct. tissue paper so that every student should be able
to play the game.
The information on potential careers will also be included on the board; however, this
will get students physically involved in learning more about this emphasis. We chose this
emphasis because we feel that it is often difficult to decide potential careers for a tourism
emphasis.
6. Name a unique hotel pictured at the lodging table.
This table will have images on the trifold of unique hotels or resorts from around the
world. These images were chosen because they will draw students to the table. Who
would not be drawn to a picture of a hotel made entirely of ice?
Hotel of Ice in Balea Lac, Romania, this hotel is built on top of a frozen glacial
lake.
Our table will cover the aspect of food and beverage around the world with images of
exotic foods that will draw the students in. There will also be a section on trends in food
and beverage; such as, farm-to-table, craft brew, and gluten free.
The students will have their paper checked on the way out of the event. If students
complete at least 7 of these they will receive a bag full of small prizes; if the student has
completed all 10 their name will be put in a drawing. Depending on how many bigger
prizes we get, we will draw that number of students names. We will then find the student
on the HTM page (since they will have liked it) and write them to let them know that
their prize is waiting for them in the HTM.
This is beneficial for two reasons:
1. They do not have to wait around at the event in order to win
2. They will know where the HTM department is and will hopefully pass faculty
in or on their way to the office
Then of course we will also have the food and beverage on the long counter to the left
when you walk in the door. We will have individuals from our class working at the food,
welcoming at the door, and working at the different tables. We hope that our guests will
help themselves to food, eat at the tables, visit the tables, and enjoy their scavenger hunt.
The individuals from our class will be there for questions and to go around and converse
with the guests.
Visit the student table and like our HTM page on Facebook!
