Lesson #: 2
Subject/Grade: Math
Date and Time of Lesson: Thursday October 9, 2014 @ 8:05
Learning Objective:
Students will use a manipulative to multiply.
Alignment with Standards:
3.OA: Understand properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication
and division:
5. Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. 2 Examples: If 6
4 = 24 is known, then 4 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication) 3 5
2 can be found by 3 5 = 15, then 15 2 = 30, or by 5 2 = 10, then 3 10 = 30.
(Associative property of multiplication) Knowing that 8 5 = 40 and 8 2 = 16, one can find 8
7 as 8 (5 + 2) = (8 5) + (8 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property)
3.OA: Multiply and divide within 100:
7. Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship
between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 5 = 40, one knows 40 5 = 8) or
properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit
numbers.
Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections:
Students will have previous knowledge of multiplication facts.
Assessment(s) of the Objectives:
Lesson Objective(s)
When given a worksheet on
multiplication facts students
will use manipulatives to
solve the problems with
85% accuracy.

Assessment(s) of the
Objective(s)
Two worksheets will be
given with four questions on
each.

Use of Formative
Assessment
The formative
assessment will be used
to see if the students are
ready to move on to
higher multiplication
facts.

Accommodations:
For this lesson, accommodations are made based on their actually grade level that they are on,
not the grade level that they are in. Students that are fast paced learners will be given a puzzle or
a book to complete after they are finished. Slower paced learners will be given 10 minutes extra
to finish the required tasks.
Materials: Counters, circles, worksheets, whiteboards, and markers.
Procedures: Step 1: Materials
1. Have materials ready for class.
2. Have enough copies of the worksheet.

Good morning boys, today we are going to use circles and counters to answer multiplication
problems on the board and when you do your worksheet. Lets do some examples on the board.
Let me draw some circles on the board. Who can help with this questions 2 x 6= how many
circles do we need? Good 2 how many counters go in each circle? Good 6. Now lets count
them. How many do we have? 12 that is right. Good job. Now I will put some more examples
on the board and I would like for you to work them out by yourself then when everyone is done I
will invite some of you up to the board to answer them. Let them finish and go over it. After that
start with the first worksheet that focuses on 2s. Use your circles that I gave you and work them
out if you need help raise your hand and I will come to assist you. After you done bring them to
me and I will give you your last worksheet. When you get your last worksheet if you need more
circles get a dry erase board, marker, and eraser. This will allow you to draw out more circles.
Instead of turning in the last worksheet go over the answers together and then have them
turn the worksheets into me. After they are done checking the answers if time permits students
will be asked to puzzle out or read a book until its time to start ELA.
Activity Analysis:
1. Worksheets will be given to help with assessment and they will be using a manipulative
that will help them better understand the material.

Questions and simulations
and questions about
will be given.
bullying situations, students
will understand the meaning
of a bully with 80%
accuracy.
When given a worksheet
Worksheet
students will correctly
answer the questions with
85% accuracy.

Use of Formative
Assessment
The use of these two
types of assessment will
provide the teacher with
an opportunity to stop
bullying of their
students.

Accommodations:
Students who have disabilities that require an aide will be given more time to finish the
assignment. Students who struggle with paying attention will be refocused. Students with visual
impairments will be asked to sit closer to the board or the teacher will read the words from the
board. Students with hearing impairments will be given headphones and the teacher will have a
microphone to talk into so the students can hear them.
Materials: Power-point and a worksheet.
Procedures: Step 1: Pre-Lesson
a. Make sure all materials are together and ready for the lesson.
b. Make sure that the days lesson is introduced.
c. Make sure that all instructions are clearly given multiple times.
Step 2: Introduction

Today we are going to be picking up where we left off yesterday with bullying. Can anyone tell
me what a bully is? Who do you tell if you or someone you know is being bullied?
Before we start on the worksheet I have a short power-point that Im going to show you.
This also has a short video with it. After the video is complete pass out the worksheet and
explain it.
Label the characters with the right words after you are done let me check it and then you
may color the paper. After you are done with that then you can turn it in and get a puzzle or book
out.
Activity Analysis:
1. A power-point will be shown with simulations and situations that will involve the subject
matter. This allows for the students to actively participate in the class discussion and it
allows them to be focused on the activity. I will be using the computer for technology.
2. A worksheet will be given that has similar situations on their so that they can be graded
on the answers to see if they were actually paying attention. No technology will be used
in this activity.

Lesson # ___3___
Subject/Grade: ELA
Date and Time of Lesson: Tuesday November 11, 2014
Learning Objective: The students will be able to write complete sentences using subjects and
predicates.
Alignment with Standards:
SCALT: 6-4.6: Use revision strategies to improve clarity, tone, voice, and the
development of ideas in written works. Concrete symbolic: When presented with a paragraph
with ideas out of order, organize sentences to follow a logical order. (e.g., sentence strips adapted
with picture symbols.)
Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections:
Students should have the knowledge of a sentence. Students should be able to work
independently and a whole class.
Assessment(s) of the Objectives:
Lesson Objective(s)

Assessment(s) of the
Objective(s)

When given a Prezi on

Worksheet
Subjects and predicates
students will be able make 2
complete sentences with
85% accuracy.

Use of Formative
Assessment
This will be used to see
if I need to try a
different strategy to
teach subject and
predicates.

Accommodations: In this type of classroom setting they do better with simple things
when they are finish with their work. Students that finish early will be asked to get a puzzle out
or read a book. If they have unfinished work from another subject then they can do that. For
students that are slower paced learners then more time will be given to them. If there is not
enough time for them to finish then they will be asked to hang on to the worksheet and finish it
in their free time. One student needs an assistive technology to help with his writing so that will
be provided. Three students have reward charts and if they do their work they are given a check
when they reach 5 checks they get to either play with Legos, get on the IPAD or computers for 5
minutes.
Materials: Prezi, worksheets, pencils, puzzles, smart-board, a book, and maybe a video.
Procedures: Step 1: Materials
a. Have all materials gathered up.
b. Make sure that you have enough copies for everyone.
c. Make sure that the Prezi and video works.
Good morning boys, Instead of working in our books today we are going to do something
different. Today we will be talking about subjects and predicates, does anyone know what that

means. See if they know the answers if they do then briefly explain and give some examples. Im
going to present to a Prezi that has a couple of videos on there and it will also give a better
definition of subjects and predicates. Go through the presentation and show the videos after each
video ask them simple questions like who can tell me what the main subject was in the video?
Can anyone tell me what a predicate was in the video?
Alright now that you know about subject and predicates I want you to take these words and
make a sentence that is telling you something and make a sentence that is asking you something.
(I will be doing a sentence scrabble worksheet where they will put words that are in the bags into
two sentences. These words will already be cut out so that we have enough time to do both
worksheets.) With these words I want you to identify the subject and the predicate by underlining
the subject and circling the predicate. When you are done with the sentences let me check them
and I will let you go ahead and glue them on the piece of paper. After you are done with this put
your name on them and hand them to me. We will wait till everyone is done with their sentence
scramble and start on their worksheets. The first worksheet has subjects and predicates. I want
you to take one word from the subject box and one word from the predicate box. Make a
sentence using those two words. If you need help raise your hand and I will come assist you.
After you are done put your name on it and hand it to me and I will give you the last worksheet.
On this worksheet you need to reorder the sentence then I need you to underline the subject and
circle the predicate. After you are done please hand them to me. Before you can get a puzzle or
book out lets close up the lesson. So lets review what is a subject? , How do you know that it is
a subject? , What is a predicate? , How do you know that it is a predicate? , and Can you as a
class come up with a short sentence that uses a subject and a predicate.
Activity Analysis:
Students will introduce to a subject that is either new to them or they have some sort of
background knowledge of it. A Prezi, video, and worksheets will be given so that the student has
multiple ways of learning about the subject. For the Prezi and video I will be using technology
that means using the smart-board to show students a video and view the Prezi.

if they understand the
strategies.

Accommodations:
In this type of classroom setting they do better with simple things when they are finish
with their work. Students that finish early will be asked to get a puzzle out or read a book. If they
have unfinished work from another subject then they can do that. For students that are slower

checks they get to either play with Legos, get on the IPAD or computers for 5 minutes.
Materials: https://prezi.com/6m0nap9wpnta/multiplication/; white board, dry erase markers,
erasers, pencils, paper, and worksheets.

Procedures: Step 1: Materials

1. Make sure that the students are split up in two groups.
2. Make sure that the other teacher is comfortable with the material and ready to teach it.
Good morning guys, lets go ahead and finish up the morning work and either put it in the
finish work basket or put it aside. Let me introduce you to our guest, Mr. Malachi is also a
Lander student and will be teaching with me today. Today we are going to do something
different. We are going to get into two groups and one will go with me into the other room and
the rest will stay in here with Mr. Malachi. We will be teaching you two different strategies or
ways to solve multiplication problems. We will rotate after 15 minutes so that you can learn both
strategies. But before we split up let me show you the Prezi so that way you know which group
you are in. Group 1 will have Christopher, Zaqueus, Ty, and Jarvis. The second group will have
Lance, John Michael, and Kunterrious. So lets get started!
Who can tell me what repeated addition is? If you dont know repeated addition is where you
use addition solve multiplication problems. For example 2 x 2 = 2+2+2+2= 4. Before beginning
with more examples pass out paper circles for them to use and bingo tokens. So what Im
handing out are circles and bingo tokens we are going use these to help us with repeated
addition. For example 2 x 4= 2+2+2+2= 8 or 2 x 4= 4+4=8. Lets try that with our circles how
many do we need? Right and how many bingo tokens do we need in each circle? Thats right so
add them up and what do we get. Good, more examples are provided and students are handed a
quick worksheet to work on. If you need help raise your hand and I will come over to help.
Students who pay attention and work hard will receive a skittle. After 15 minutes are up now you
are going to go into the other room to Ms. Schilling and she will teach you another lesson.
Thanks for all of the hard work. Repeat for the next group.
Today we are going to learn about skip counting. Can anyone tell me what skip counting is?
A number line will be provided on the board and they will be also given a paper number line that
they can use to go over examples. Well skip counting is when you have a number line and say
we want to see what 2 x 4 is so we will start at 2 and go 4, 6, and whats after that, 8 good. Have
students come up one by one and have them each do a fact family. So one will do the 2s, 5s,
and 4s. Alright now that we are done with that here is a small worksheet make sure you put your
name and date on it. If you need to use your number line please do. Also if you need help raise
your hand and I will help you. For students that paid attention during the lesson and participate
they will be rewarded with a gummy bear. Now since you are done let me check with Mr.
Malachi and will switch. Repeat for the next group.
After each group is done have them all come back together. Alright guys lets get back
together and we have one more worksheet to do. Now listen to my directions very carefully,
when you get this worksheet choose between either repeated addition or skip counting for your
answers. If you need any help please raise your hand and either Mr. Malachi or I will come and
help you out. When you are finish please put your name on it and hand it to Mr. Malachi or I.
Then get a puzzle or read a book. If you need to finish your morning work then do so at this
time.

Worksheet

This will be used to see

if they know the
information.

Accommodations: In this type of classroom setting they do better with simple things
when they are finish with their work. Students that finish early will be asked to get on Compass
Learning for Social Studies since its the end of the day. If they have had a good the last 10
minutes of the day they can get on Cool Math. If they have unfinished work from another
subject then they can do that. For students that are slower paced learners then more time will be
given to them. If there is not enough time for them to finish then they will be asked to hang on to
the worksheet and finish it in their free time. One student needs an assistive technology to help
with his writing so that will be provided. Three students have reward charts and if they do their
work they are given a check when they reach 5 checks they get to either play with Legos, get on
the IPAD or computers for 5 minutes.
Materials: Power-Point, smart-board, and worksheet.
Procedures: Step 1: Materials
3. Make sure that all materials are ready to go.
4. Already have worksheets printed out and power-point up and running.
Step 2: Warm-up/Introduction:
Good afternoon boys, today we are going to wrap up on national holidays can anyone tell me a
national holiday? What was Tuesday? If you dont remember Tuesday was Veterans day. Does
anyone know why we celebrate these Holidays? We celebrate them because they are important
dates in History that need to be remembered. Im going to show you a short power-point on
National Holidays and I need you to pay close attention because they Holidays that are on this

Power-point goes along with the worksheets and the matching game we will do after this
presentation. Go ahead and start the presentation. When going through the holidays ask questions
(What is the date of this holiday? Why do we celebrate it?). This will make sure that students are
paying attention to the presentation. After the presentation is done explain the matching game.
Now we are going to do a matching game. Pass out the bags with the cards in them. What you
are going to do there are three sets are cards one has a picture that describes the Holiday, then
you have the date, and the last set is the name of the Holiday. You will need to match each one
of these to each other so for each one you need to have three matches. Go ahead and start on it if
you need any help raise your hand and I will come and help you. After you are done raise your
hand so I can come check it. It will also be a good idea if you leave them out because the cards
will help you with the worksheet. Give them time to do it. Alright now that you are finished with
the matching game we are going to move on to the worksheet there is a front and a back make
sure you follow the directions. If you need help raise your hand and I will come to assist you.
When you are done put your name and date on them and bring them to me. After you are done
with the worksheet and the game I would like for you to get on Compass Learning until its time
to go. Before you get on Compass Who can tell me what National Holiday to like the best? Lets
go around the room and share.
