Temple Baptist Church Military Family Ministry

For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes, and to another,
Come, and he comes, and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.

What is the Military Family Ministry of

Temple Baptist Church?
The Bible instructs us to, Carry each
others burdens, and in this way you will
fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2,
NIV). The Military Family Ministry of
Temple Baptist Church is designed to
fulfill this instruction. By offering support,
encouragement, and the love of Christ,
the members of Temple Baptist Church
recognize and support our men and women
in uniform and their families.
This ministry seeks to support the heroes
of the military and their families, whether
its a broken dishwasher that needs repair
or help through an emotional crisis, our
ministry team members stand ready and
willing to serve those who serve our country
at home and abroad.
As our brochure states, The Military
Family Ministry at Temple was created to
recognize the service and sacrifice made by
our military and their families and to share
their unique burdens, said Philip Slusher,
TBCs Missions Pastor. As families and
their loved ones carry our nations burden of
freedom and life as we know it, the body of
Christ will stand beside them to help them
shoulder the unique burdens brought on by
this honorable call.
Temple Baptist Church offers many
ministries to military families here in the
Pine Belt area, as well as to military families
across the state. These are programs and

services that are available to you, the

men and women in uniform and your
families. Locally, we offer counseling,
Bible Study on Sunday and throughout the
week, Worship services, a prayer ministry,
preschool ministry, childrens ministry,
student ministry, college ministry, womens
ministry, recreation ministry and a special
needs ministry for children with special
needs from age two to 18. On a statewide
level, we are here to provide counseling and
chaplaincy services to our military families.
Temple is a family compelled to serve
because of Christs love for us, Slusher
added. You dont have to be a member
of Temple to receive our services or
information. We serve because we want to
be a reflection of what Christ has done in us
and through us.
If you live in the Pine Belt, we invite
you and your family to come and join us
and see what opportunities Temple has to
offer. If you live outside the Pine Belt, but
would like to learn more about our Military
Family Ministry, wed love to share some
information with you, as well.

A Prayer for Protection

In Psalm 121:1-3; 7-8 (NIV) the Word says, I look up to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.
He is the Maker of heaven and earth. He wont let your foot slip. He who watches over you wont get tired. The Lord will keep you from
every kind of harm. He will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your life no matter where you go, both now and forever.
Lord, I pray that you will be my soldiers ever present help and that You will not allow his foot to slip. Thank you that you do not slumber or
sleep, that even in the night you watch over him and all of his battalion and our troops. Be their keeper, the shade at their right hand. And may they
rest in the shelter of your wings (Psalm 61:4) and awaken with new strength (paraphrased from Militaryfamiliespray.com, February 2005).

Chaplain Tom Fuller

Camp Shelby

FIRST--- I think I understand, after being

deployed twice overseas in a war zone and
seven times called to active duty, that the
first tool I took out of my toolbox was the
local church family. The faith family took
me to war and back. They prayed for me
personally lifting my name in prayer to Almighty God, the Lord of the universe. They
wrote me letters, emails, sent me stuff to
wear, eat, and share. They stayed in contact
with me and were there for me in the tough
times of war. They did not give up looking
after me. They gave me the mental toughness and resilience that I needed to continue
in the fight. They were a point of reference
for me to know why I fight to keep our way
of life. God gave the church to be the Body
of Christ here on earth -- to do for me what
Christ would do on earth.
The faith family also cared for my family.
They looked after their needs. The church
came along side my wife and children. They
provided moral support, physical support,
and put feet to their prayers. When my wife
was concerned about my safety they were
there praying. When something broke, the

family of faith offered to mend the broken

item. She could count on the church to
come through and do what I could not being
eight thousand plus miles away. The bottom line is you need the church when you
go to war.
The next generation of Soldiers and families need the invisible means of support that
only the faith family can give. The church
is the body of Christ to help in times of war.
The Apostle Paul reminds the church of
Rome to practice this ministry:
Romans 12:9-13
(New International Version)
Love
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil;
cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another
above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal,
but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the
Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction,
faithful in prayer. Share with Gods people
who are in need. Practice hospitality.
That is why we have a desperate need
to have this type of ministry today. That is
why I want to see Temples Military Family
Ministry be successful because the church
has given me the number one tool in my soldier and family toolbox, LOVE! Make no
mistake; it will take the Love of God and
the Love of the Church to get through these
tough times of deployment and war. So,
whats in your tool box, Soldier and family,
when the deployments come?
