Classroom Management
Ive learned that student will get out of control when they are bored, or when they
know the teacher is a push over. They can also get out of control because they dont
understand the lesson being presented. It is the teachers job to have control of their class
room no matter what is going on. We have to be able to meet all the needs of our students
while we are teaching, and maintaining control and the atmosphere of our room. As a
beginning teacher, it almost seems impossible to do it all and not go crazy ourselves.
However, for those of us who are serious about teaching helping our students, we find a
way to balance it all.
Considering there are many learning theories, they all coincide with each other in
some way. The main things are to gain the attention of the children as soon as they walk
in the class, and to be able to teach all the students, and make the proper accommodations
to teach the students who have learning disabilities. In order to meet those needs, one
must be acquainted with the ways students learn and how to properly address the various
disabilities. There also has to be rules and consequences for the students across the board.
Its not an easy task, but it can be done.
The learning theory I like the most is Banduras Social Learning Theory. I say
this because he hits all aspects of most learning theories in four steps; attention, retention,
reproduction, and motivation. If you gain the attention of the students as soon as they
walk in the classroom, they are less likely to act out. Next, you have to teach a lesson that
they can retain. Meaning, it cant be too complicated or difficult to teach and learn. If it
is, you will lose the students, and they will get out of hand. If the lesson is taught well

enough and the teacher is enthusiastic enough, the students will retain the lesson, and will
be able to reproduce what they have learned. Having a learning environment and a
motivated teacher, the students will be motivated to learn. The teacher must be a good
model for this to work. They need to be this way every day in order for this to be
effective as well.
I personally would use everything that I mentioned above in my classroom. I
believe that doing all of the above will also help me to adhere to the Professional
Standards of Michigan Teachers as well. These standards are;
1. Subject matter knowledge-base in general and liberal education
2. Instructional design and assessment
3. Curricular and pedagogical content knowledge aligned with state resources
4. Effective learning environment
5. Responsibilities and relationships to the school, classroom, and students
6. Responsibilities and relationship to the greater community
7. Technology operations and concepts
If a teacher is well versed in the PSMT, I believe that they will have minimal issues from
students because they student will be involved in their learning. However, there still
should be rules, consequences, and rewards set for the classroom.
Listed below are rules I would have for my classroom outside of the rules set for the
school.

I will respect my teacher, classmates and most of all, myself

I will do as my teacher asks

I will not touch the instruments unless instructed to

I will keep my hands to myself

I will be the best student I can be and learn to the best of my ability

Some student consequences would be:

Failure to follow the rules the first time will result in a light verbal
acknowledgement of the situation

The second time will student(s) would have to sit out of the activity for 1
min. (or 30s) and regular teacher will be notified.

The third time, instrument or scarf time will be taken away.

Anything beyond the three warnings will result in a parent, student, and
teacher conference.

Some class consequences would be:

The first and second warnings will be verbal

The third warning will result in loss of time using the instruments/scarves

Any warning past the third warning will result in losing recess.

Rewards for both individual students and class would be:

Verbal praise

Musical, or music related trinkets

Pizza or ice cream party (with musical plates, cups, and napkins) along with a
musical game, or educational music movie.

My role as a teacher is to be an educator, friend, supporter, and motivator to my

students, their parents, and the surrounding community. The roles of the students are to
be learners and self/peer motivators to each other. The role of the parents and community
are to be the support system, outside educators, and motivators to the students.

Parents must be involved in all of the events. They will be informed of all
upcoming events and notified about what is exactly needed from them. They are the back
bone of our schools and examples to our students. I will use the parents to help promote
what their students are doing in the community as far as fundraisers and concerts. I
believe that with all the help from the school, community, parents, and a great learning
environment will help propel the students in their learning process.
