ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
BY:Doug Liguori

Teaching Philosophy: A teachers strives for excellence,

embraces diversity, and the freedom to be oneself. A
teacher encourages a safe learning environment and a
positive attitude towards success. At teacher always puts
the students potential first.

TECHNIQUES CRITICAL TO EFFECTIVE TEACHING

1. Post It
2. Begin With the End
3. The Shortest Path

POST IT
Write down your classrooms main objectives for the day
Post them somewhere easily visible to the whole classroom
Make sure the objectives are in an easily understood language (Usually
English)
Underline or emphasize the more important objectives of the day

PURPOSE
Helps students identify the days objectives easily
Allows students to understand their objective and its conclusion
Visitors can easily give feedback on your lessons, because they
are aware of the overall objectives
Helps avoid advice that is idiosyncratic, since your lessons
purpose is on visible

BEGIN WITH THE END

Considering the objective first, you begin with the end so you have what
your students should know at the end and can plan accordingly
This can be achieved through unit planning because you can have
objectives to be met and can slowly be achieved by lesson planning in
where it all connects to the greater objective of a unit

Begin With the End

1. Starting with unit planning and
moving to lesson planning

2. Using an objective to set a goal

for each lesson
3. Determining how you will
assess the effectiveness in
reaching your goal
4. Deciding on a activity

THE SHORTEST PATH

This teaching technique is used to complete a teaching objective in the most
concise way. Its a lesson that is to the point without any extra fluff.

Teachers often get lost from their objective with too much complexity.
To fix this they need the Shortest Path!

Visual Learners: Teach a lesson that involves depictions and

physical representations to get the teaching objective across to
students. EX) Math Problem on the classroom whiteboard.
Kinistetic Learners: Teach a lesson involving the students as doers. Teachers can use the shortest point by making students use
action. EX) Acting out a historical event
Auditory Learners: Teach a lesson that involves storytelling. Some
students learn best by listening to their teachers lesson. EX)
Lecture style format
Closing Point: Teachers need to understand the learning styles of
their students in order to be clear, concise, and, to the point!

TEACH LIKE A CHAMPION

The Shortest Path, Beginning with the End,
and Post It are all techniques that are part of my
teaching philospohy. They are the foundation for
planning, working through, and evaluating all
lessons. If you can implement these techniques
into your teaching, you have the potential to
become an excellent teacher.
