Service for Shelters

Group Members:

Estimated Total Cost: $2169.88
Project Description:
Shelters in the Westminster Area are overcrowded and need the communitys
help. Helpless cats and dogs are waiting for their perfect owners to come rescue them.
In order to help provide basic needs and wants for these animals, Service for Shelters
wants to donate food, toys, bedding, and other caring needs to the Carroll County
Humane Society. Service for Shelters would also like to plan drives where people from
the Westminster community could donate animal food, toys, etc. These drives would be
held outside local grocery and pet stores. We would like to raise awareness for these
animals and promote the adoption of animals within the community.
Goals:
Our project hopes to combat the growing overcrowding of shelters by providing
needed supplies for them and promoting the adoption from local shelters rather than
purchasing animals. We hope to make people in the Westminster community think
about the benefits of adoption when they are choosing a pet for their home. We also
want to gain support for local shelters and promote donates being given to them when
needed. Along with the donations of needed supplies to local shelters, we will hold
adoption events in order to promote the idea of adopting animals. At these events we
will also give attendees the chance to meet with the animals and adopt them on the spot.
Our goal is to reduce the overflow of animals in shelters while also promoting adoption
as an alternative to purchasing pets.
Expected Results:
We hope to see a reduction in the number of animals left in local shelters because
of our project. Service for Shelters hopes to really change the mindset of people in
Westminster so they always choose to adopt their animals rather than purchase them
from breeders. We also hope to increase the amount in donations given to local animal
shelters through our project.

Personal Interest in Volunteerism:

Bailey Booth:
I have always been involved in my community, especially with those who cannot
speak for themselves. I have a passion for animals and hate to see even one animal
suffering when there was a chance they could have been helped. Throughout my own
life, I have had many pets, all of which were adopted from local animal shelters and
rescue organizations. I have always believed that animals cannot speak for themselves
and they cannot care for themselves in todays urban society. Because of this, we as
humans are compelled to take care of them and support them so they can live healthy
lives.
Bryn Blanchard:
I have always believed in adopted pets from shelters rather than purchasing
them. I adopted both of my dogs from animal shelters in my community. I was raised to
believe that animals do not deserve to be put down and left alone in shelters. I want to
be able to help animals find loving homes first hand.
