116.56. Team Sports (One-Half Credit).

(a) General requirements. The recommended prerequisite for this
course is Foundations of Personal Fitness.
(b) Introduction.
(1) In Physical Education, students acquire the knowledge and skills
for movement that provide the foundation for enjoyment, continued
social development through physical activity, and access to a
physically-active lifestyle. The student exhibits a physically-active
lifestyle and understands the relationship between physical activity
and health throughout the lifespan.
(2) Students enrolled in Team Sports are expected to develop healthrelated fitness and an appreciation for team work and fair play. Like
the other high school physical education courses, Team Sports is less
concerned with the acquisition of physical fitness during the course
than reinforcing the concept of incorporating physical activity into a
lifestyle beyond high school.
(c) Knowledge and skills.
(1) Movement skills. The student demonstrates competency in many
movement forms and proficiency in two or more team sports such as
basketball, field hockey, flag football, floor hockey, soccer, softball,
team handball, or volleyball. The student is expected to:
(A) demonstrate consistency using all the basic offensive skills of a
sport while participating in a game such as dribbling, batting, or
spiking competently in a dynamic setting; and
(B) demonstrate consistency using all the basic defensive skills of a
sport while participating in a game such as guarding, trapping,
blocking, fielding, tackling, or goalkeeping competently in a dynamic
setting.

(5) Social development. The student develops positive

personal and social skills needed to work independently
and with others in aerobic activities. The student is
expected to:
(B) respond to challenges, successes, and failures in

physical activities in socially appropriate ways;

Higher Order Questions: How does this game raise the aerobic capacity do for the human body? How
can this raise the anaerobic capacity during the boccer game?
Student Activities: (Keep in mind the following: Scaffolding, Independent or Cooperative activities, Groupings, Reading,
Writing, Listening, Hands-On/Minds-On, Connections to previous knowledge, etc)
1) Students come in gym and start a movement activity (walking)
2) Students will warm-up with a 2 minute jog around the gym and then stretching.
3) Students will meet in the conversation circle where the next activity will be explained about the lesson and ask if students
have any prior knowledge of soccer or basketball.
4) Students will listen and understand the rules of the game of BOCCER.
5) Students will play the game and the teacher will monitor any issues that arise and modify the rules if needed.

Set Up Lesson: Teacher will introduce the rules of the game and explain how the game is
played. How many on each team and what the positions will be. The teacher will then
divide the teams into 2 groups. Each team will need a goalkeeper.
Set Up Lesson/Independent Practice: The students will begin the game and teacher will
observe if changes will be needed. If teams need to be changed or students understand the
game rules. The game will start with the teacher acting as a referee and call fouls where they
occur. The teacher will also keep score and start and stop the game. He/she will attempt to
keep the game fair and the environment safe.
Lesson Closure: The teacher will bring players in for a cool down stretch and discuss
options to make the game better. Would any changes make the game more fun and
workable?
Assessment Methods/Strategies: Assessment will be participation of the activity. Did they
show enthusiasm for the game and attempts to participate in the lesson.

Resources (supplies, equipment, software, etc.): Soccer ball, pennies (2 colors of 8-10 plus 2 pennies
different colored for the goalkeepers), 4-8 cones, whistle
Reflection: After playing the game I would need to assess if the game was fair and the environment safe.
Do I need to accommodate the game for students with disabilities? Can I make the game more apt for
success for the students?
