on the board. Circle the
answers on the board that
are correct examples of

Students then build a simple
machine using the blocks for
display in the classroom.

machine. Extended time on
this activity to 11 minutes.
Dont worry about Shellys
time running over the next
period is free reading for ten
minutes for the class.

Follow-Up Activities: Independent Practice, Enrichment, or Reinforcement


Reinforcement: Using the projector I will bring up the Internet site:
http://www.mikids.com/Smachines.htm and we will explore the site looking at the various different
simple machines displayed. Thomas can do this on his laptop and follow along with us (I will create a
desktop icon for him to click on to take him to this link).
Assessment worksheet: Students will document ten examples of simple machines that they see in their
day to day lives. Modified: Shelly will draw pictures of two simple machines from the packet she is
working on with Mrs. Carlson. Thomas will utilize the laptop to document three simple machines that he
sees in his day to day life using pictures and information from the text Simple Machines he can also use
the simple machines listed on mikids.com to compile answers. Thomas desk partner can help him to
achieve this task.
