UNIT OBJECTIVE

The students have been introduced to fact and opinion earlier in the year but this lesson
will readdress fact and opinion from a different view. The students will have to determine
fact and opinions from the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. This will make the student pay
close attention to what they are reading as well as work on their technological skills. They
will be creating an F and O column in a word document which will help them sort the
sentences into fact or opinion.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Content Learning Goals and Objectives

1. Given the fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood, TLW be able to identify three facts and

come up with three opinions with 100% accuracy.


2. Given a Microsoft Word Document, TLW create two columns and correctly place their
facts and opinions with 100% accuracy.
3. Given a laptop, TLW type a five sentence paragraph that contains three facts about
themselves and two opinions and submit it to the class website with 100% accuracy.
Student Participation
The goal of this lesson is for the students to fully comprehend a short story by writing a
summary. Students are to correctly create technological based recordings along with proper
typing skills and creativity.

Materials Used

1. Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale


2. Laptop
3. Two Microsoft Word documents
Technology Integration
Students will use the short story given above to type help identify three facts and creatively
come up with three opinions. The students will then type their facts and opinions into a student
made column on Microsoft Word as well as type a five sentence paragraph containing three facts
and two opinions about themselves. These documents will be saved and emailed to the teacher
for grading.
BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
Students will show how well they comprehended the short story by clearly typing in their
own words a summary of what they read.
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
The class will continue to use technology to record collected data through Microsoft Word
and then Microsoft Excel. Each student will be asked to type a five to seven sentence
summary of what was taught in class starting from now on to better improve typing skills,
sentence structure, and awareness.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the
objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in
this course and are not part of this lesson.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction:
Begin handing out Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale while students answer the
question.
Place the students in groups of two and have them read the story.
Provide each student with a laptop.
Procedures:
Prior to the Computer (10 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. Have students write down what a fact is and what an opinion is.
2. Be available for any groups who may have questions about Little Red Riding Hood
Student Procedures
1. Read the story with partner and begin brainstorming three facts and three opinions.
Computer Time (40 minutes)
Teacher Procedures
1. Instruct students to open Microsoft Word
2. Direct students on how to insert and create a column
3. Instruct groups to begin creating columns

4. Make sure as students finish they move to the next assignment of typing facts and
opinions about themselves.
5. Direct students on the correct way to save documents and email to teacher
6. Check to make sure each student is on track and saving documents correctly
Student Procedures
1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Create two columns and place facts in the F column and opinions in the O column
3. Open a new Microsoft Word document
4. Type three facts and two opinions about themselves
5. Save all documents under the same folder
6. Log onto student email
7. Email folder with COMPELTED columns and self-facts and opinions
Post Computer (15 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. Gather students into a big circle
2. Give an opportunity for questions
3. Have them return to their desks and prepare to leave class
Student Procedures:
1. In the circle each student is to share at least one fact and one opinion about themselves
2. Students are to return to desk and begin getting things ready to leave class.
Closure:
Students will sit at desks and participate in a Brainpop video on the smart board about facts and
opinions until the bell rings.
