Lesson Objective

VA SOL K.1 The student will demonstrate growth in the use of oral
language by using complete sentences that include subject, verb, and
object.

Purpose of the lesson

The student will be able to distinguish between a complete sentence and

an incomplete sentence at the end of this lesson. They will be able to
verbally communicate to their teacher and peers using a complete
sentence.

Activity

The teacher will review knowledge orally of prior lessons about

sentences. She will then explain that a sentence has three parts, a
subject, verb, and object. The teacher will then present the Prezi
presentation. With the first sentence she will explain that the subject,
verb, and object all have different colors to help students identify the
correct part of the sentence easier. She will guide the students through
the second sentence on the presentation, and then ask for student
volunteers to assist in reading and distinguishing the parts of the third
sentence while moving from bubble to bubble, then back to the whole
screen.
The teacher will then explain that the students will split into groups of
three and log into their group laptop. Students will then use Microsoft
Word to create their own sentences with the subject, verb, and object

colored differently as was modeled in the presentation.

Assessment

Assessment of knowledge will take place as the teacher observes

whether the sentences are correctly constructed and color coded.

The teachers role in this lesson plan aligns with the ISTE Standard 1(d) which is the teacher will
facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity by promoting student reflection using collaborative
tools to reveal and clarify students conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative
processes. The teacher allows the students to use the laptop as a collaborative tool because the
students are working together in groups to create a word document (complete sentences). The
students use the collaborative tool to show the teacher what they do and do not know following the
lesson while creating sentences in a small group setting. This lesson also aligns with the TSIPS 3.1 which
is to use word processing along with 1.1 1.6 which involves the basic startup and usage of a computer.
