LSW Poetry

The form of poetry that I found interesting from the book, A Kick in the Head,
is a found poem. The name of the type of poem sounds familiar to me and I
remember writing them in school, but I cannot remember what my found poems
were about.
Once I reminded myself the criteria of a found poem and then read The
Paper Trail, I realized that I really enjoyed this form of poetry. I find it interesting
and intriguing that the lines in the poem may have not been exactly intended for
poetry. I think this allows authors to be more creative and find minute connects in
things that can make the poem so interesting; like in the lines bits of paper floated
into the open classroom windows, drifted into a second floor apartment window on
Liberty Street. It is those aspects of the found poem that draws the reader in.
Another example, the line They fluttered from the sky like a sweet and peaceful
snowstorm shows a unique and eloquent way to describe paper falling. This is type
of poem is good for showing students that they can find and create poems easily and
basically on any topic. This form also uses a lot of vivid detail and specific wording
that helps the reader to create a rich picture in their head. I appreciate how this
form of poetry really gives the author the freedom of where he or she wants to take
the direction of the poem. This can make any human being feel as if they can be a
real poet because this form allows them to create something beautiful and majestic
out of a daily object or even out of nothing.
