A. Classroom Management
In order to create a positive climate in the classroom, Morning Meeting will
be implemented in the classroom. After learning and participating in the Morning
Meetings facilitated by our EDU 430 class I feel that bringing this activity into the
classroom each day will allow for my students to build upon their classroom
community. This activity will also give the students a purpose within their
classroom community. To help build a more positive climate in the classroom I feel
that adding a clip-up/down behavioral chart would be very beneficial when
addressing student behavior. The current system for addressing behavior is very
negative and does not motivate the students to change their behavior. Using the
clip-up/down behavioral chart will allow students to physically see where they need
to improve and have a chance to do so throughout the day.
For this class I would need to establish some behavioral expectations for the
students. I have several expectations in mind, but the main ones would be: Listen to
the teacher and follow directions and procedures at all times; respect others,
respect yourself and respect our school; be safe at all times while at school. I would
like to establish these rules through a classroom constitution that the students could
participate in and discuss why they must follow the classroom constitution. If an
infraction of these rules occurs by any of the students I will enforce them through
the clip-up/down behavioral chart. This chart will be something that students use
everyday, and when they come in each morning their close pin will be on the ready
to learn tab. There are three positive and three negative behavior tabs on either side
of the ready to learn tab. For each infraction of a rule the student will clip-down
their close pin to one of the negative behavior tabs. The first offense will be, the

think about it tab, which is a warning. Then the second offense will be, the slow
down and fix it tab. If the student does not fix the behavior and clip-up before a
specific time of the day, such as recess, they will lose their free play and have to walk
laps or sit. Lastly, the third offense will result in the student clipping-down to the
parent contact tab. If this tab is reached at any point during the day the students
parent or guardian will be contacted about the specific behavior either during a
planning period or at the end of the day. The parent contact tab is also reserved for
displays of severe misbehavior, which will be addressed immediately when and if
they occur. The student will be removed from the classroom and an administrator
will be contacted for assistance.
In order to promote and reinforce both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation I
will utilize several strategies and resources. The clip-up/down behavioral chart
itself is an extrinsic reinforcement because the students physically see their
behavior both improve and regress as the day goes on. The students will also be
rewarded at the end of the week if they do not fall below the ready to learn tab with
a bedazzled sticker for their close pin. This chart also allows for them to make
changes to their behavior throughout the day so it keeps their outlook positive even
when they are clipped on negative behavior tabs. For intrinsic behavior I believe
that setting academic and behavioral goals with the individual students through a
weekly conference will reinforce their behavior and motivation.
B. Non- Instructional Routines and Procedures
The class will begin each day by greeting my students at the door with a
positive attitude. Students will come in and unpack their book bags, and also get out
their homework, signed papers, and agenda. They will begin on their morning work
problems for math or ELA. After the late bell has rung I will take attendance and
then the lunch count. The lunch count will be done by the students raising their
hands with their designated lunch choice displayed using their fingers. After the
attendance and lunch count is taken we will participate in our Morning Meeting.
When Morning Meeting ends our ELA instructional block will begin. We will move

through each instructional block with each one connecting with a transitional
activity. These activities will usually be non-academic and require physical
participation in order to get students out of their seats. For Lunch, students will
attend recess first and then when they come in we will wash our hands and the
lunch helper will distribute the lunch cards. Lunch choice one, will go first, followed
by choice two. Students will not have assigned seats at lunch unless I feel it is
necessary. During the last fifteen minutes of each day students will turn in any
classwork to their work cubbies and write down agenda assignments that will be
posted on the board. They will then pack up before announcements. Packing up will
consist of packing their book bags up, cleaning their desk area, and putting their
chairs on their desktops. Designated students will sweep, sharpen pencils, and clean
the boards. Classroom and school announcements will be given at their very end of
this time period and I will leave along with the students for bus/car duty.
Student helpers will be assigned bi-weekly for all classroom jobs. Some of the
classroom jobs include bathroom monitors, supply distributers, pencil sharpener,
tidier (sweeper), board cleaner/keeper, line leader, door holder, caboose, classroom
messenger, classroom assistants, etc. These positions will be rotated out in order for
all students to have a turn at each classroom job.
While in the hallway students will walk silently with their hands off the walls.
In order to enforce this we will use our clip-up/down behavior chart to promote the
positive hallway behavior. Bathroom breaks should be done silently and the
bathroom monitors will enforce the behavior while in the bathrooms. The monitors
are to report to me if the rules are being broken. Emergency procedures will be
reviewed at the begging of each nine weeks with the students. During emergency
situations we will follow the emergency procedures keeping calm and orderly as
they occur. The students will be under my supervision at all times during these
situations.
