Knowledge:
Observation on Domains of Development
o I learned the three different domains for child development, which include
social/emotional, physical, and cognitive. I am able to distinguish what domain
the child needs help with or has already mastered.
DRDP
o The knowledge I have gained from the DRDPs was learning about all 43
measures in detail. Also, learning the different levels for each measure and where
to place the child.
Essay on Importance of Play
o Understanding the importance of play and how it can effectively help a child
master certain skills. Play is learning how to master skills in a child-friendly way.
It is not too complex or too simple.

o The knowledge I have gained from this observation was what makes an unsafe
classroom.

Skills:
Observation on Domains of Development

o The skills I have gained from the observation were what to look for while
observing and being able to observe a child. Observations were difficult when I
first started child development due to my lack of experience.
DRDP
o One skill I have gained from the DRDPs was observing a child to see at what
level he/she is at. This is a helpful skill to learn the best possible way to teach the
child. Another skill is incorporating DRDPs into activity plans for the children.

o The skill I have gained from this essay was understanding how children learn
through play and being able to explain to parents the benefits.

o The skills I have gained from this observation were how to create a safe
environment for children and observing what can be unsafe. Just by looking at a
situation, I can see whether or not it will be safe for the child.

o Throughout my student teaching experience I learned how to observe children and
incorporate their interests into my activities.

o I have learned how many measures overlap when creating an activity. During my
student teaching, I realized how many measures were incorporated in these
activities without giving it any thought.

o During my student teaching, I was able to fully experience how play helps
children learn and master multiple skills. Play is an important part of a childs
development.

o I familiarized myself with the safety regulation of the classroom and how to
ensure a safe environment throughout my student teaching.

way they develop. Observing children in their environment helped me find out
how to find their interests and how to incorporate them in my student teaching.

Future Growth & Next Steps:
Think about your future teaching, list three goals to help you improve upon your existing
knowledge and skills and your teaching.
My first goal to improve my teaching is getting more experience working with children. I
want to work with many different groups of children to help me become the most
effective teacher I can be. I will achieve this goal by either volunteering in a preschool or
applying to become an associate teacher.
My second goal is to learn how the centers I will teach at in the future document a childs
development. It will open my mind to the varieties of ways teachers help their children
learn.
My third goal is to incorporate my beliefs on play in a center I will be working at. Also,
find out what other teachers opinions are on play.
