A Community Affair: 10th Annual Power of the Purse Luncheon
Greenville, N.C. --- Mark your calendars ladies, the planning of the 10th annual Power
Purse luncheon set for May 6th, 2015 is currently underway.
Women for Women is a female philanthropy nonprofit organization based in eastern
North Carolina. Community involvement is what drives this group and in turn creates
opportunities for women and girls to thrive in the community.
Founded in 2005 with a generous donation by June Ficklen, she along with an advisory
board of eight community leaders began promoting Women for Women's mission, "To Give
Hope, Change, and a Brighter Future For the Women and Girls of Pitt County."
Women for Women holds various events throughout the year promoting female
empowerment, but the grand event held each year in May is indeed it's annual Power of the
Purse luncheon. The event is held in association of the theme of everyone involved being
"committed to becoming effective philanthropists through the power of giving."
Since its first luncheon in 2006 the event has grown dramatically in member size and
public involvement, starting with 220 attendees to now over 1500. All the proceeds from the
luncheon go towards the grants awarded annually by the Women for Women.

Each year keynote guest speakers' come to share their wisdom and stories in promoting
the well being of the women in Pitt County. Speakers in past years have included Naomi Judd,
Joan Lunden, Sarah Ferguson, Lee Woodruff and Marlo Thomas.

Last year's guest speaker, whose roots stem from eastern North Carolina; Frances
Schultz, a southerner, journalist, tastemaker, television personality, and much more was the latest
to share her wisdom at the Power of the Purse luncheon. Schultz left with high remarks for her
hometown area, and the efforts of the Women for Women organization, I am incredibly
honored to be invited to speak to Women for Womens Power of the Purse luncheon and thrilled
to be coming home. Eastern North Carolina is one of the finest places on the planet. It was a
privilege to grow up here, and it is a privilege to be welcomed back by such a wonderful and
important group as the Women of Pitt County.- she said at last year's event

The Women for Women organization announced grants of seventy-five thousand dollars
towards scholarships within the Pitt County community, 17 grants were given to local charities
at last year's event. Last year one of the groups receiving funding was the Building Hope
Community Life Centers Women of Worth College and Career Program for at-risk high
school students. Money will be used to provide career training for 50 girls through a seven-week
summer leadership academy and daily academic tutoring for 30 girls.

Membership in Women for Women is open to any woman who donates the minimum one
hundred dollars annually to the nonprofit organizations endowment fund. All donations, as well
as funds from tickets to the groups annual Power of the Purse luncheon, are distributed annually
