Learning Objectives
Students can talk understand authentic spoken Spanish in the form of a news Podcast.
Communicative Objective
- Students can compare the US governments actions against obesity with those of the Mexican
governments
- Students can discuss obesity in the US and in Mexico.
Evaluation/Assessment
Students will be evaluated through a number of assessments. First, all handouts/worksheets from the
class period will be collected and objectively evaluated according to a rubric. Next, the exit slip will be
collected and evaluated according to a rubric. Instructor will monitor the class during the pre-listening,
listening, and post-listening activities, as well as the classroom discussion, and will check for
understanding throughout.

Instructor Guidelines
1. Give students 2 minutes to quickly make predictions about the Podcast.
2. Give students 3 minutes to quickly answer the multiple choice/ true-false questions. (Answers:
1. C, 2. C, 3. D, 4. Sube 5. C, 6. Opinion)
3. Allow students to listen to Podcast once, with their pencils down.
4. Have students listen to the Podcast a second time, this time answering the 4 multiplechoice/true-false questions. (Answers: 1. C, 2. B, 3. D, 4. C)
5. Have students listen to the Podcast a third time, this time providing them with the Podcast
transcript, asking them to fill in the blanks with the missing words provided in a word bank.
(Answers: comida chatarra, impuesto, restringiendo, tasas)
6. After listening, ask students to answer the five post-listening true-false questions. (Answers:
1. F, 2. F, 3. F, 4. F, 5. C)
7. Have students complete 5 sentences through a matching activity. (Answers: 1. C, 2. E, 3. A, 4. D,
5.B)
8. Ask students to agree or disagree with the six statements.
9. Instructor will read each of the six statements out loud and ask students to raise their hand to
indicate whether they agree or disagree. Make generalizing statements about the results of the
poll.
10. Ask students to complete the Exit Slip either before they leave class, or, if time does not
permit, assign it for homework.

Ask students to compare American and Mexican eating habits, along with typical exercise
patterns and/or expectations.

la obesidad en el pas. El programa incluye un impuesto a la _____________________ que
