Social Studies- An important part of Social Studies is examining the cultures of ethnic groups all over the
world. El da de los muertos is an important holiday for Latinoamrica. Cultural practices are emphasized
and studied in Social Studies courses.

I will show the slides of pictures and text that give basic info about the rituals of el Da de los
Muertos. The students should remember some of these basic ideas from their previous

I will go through the list of vocabulary that I have provided and have the class repeat each
term after me. Then, I will put up on the board the story that explains a familys practices in
the first person. The story includes the important vocabulary words. I will have a student
read a paragraph, and then we will stop and examine the paragraph for key words listed on
the vocabulary sheet. We will work together to come up with definitions/translations of the
words by going paragraph by paragraph.

The students will work together in partners to identify the vocabulary words by looking at
the pictures on the board
