I establish good eye contact with my class. I do

not talk over their heads, to the blackboard or to
just one individual.
If I tend to teach predominantly to one area of
the classroom, I am aware of this.
I make a conscious effort at all times to pay
attention to all students equally.
I divide my students into small groups in an
organized and principled manner.
I recognize that these groups should differ in
size and composition, varying with the

I arrange the seating in my class to suit the

class activity for the day.
I consider the physical comfort of the room
such as heat and light.
When I need special materials or equipment, I
have them set up before the class begins.

My handwriting on the blackboard and /or

charts is legible from all locations in the
classroom. It is large enough to accommodate
students with vision impairments.
I speak loudly enough to be heard in all parts of
the classroom and I enunciate clearly.
I vary the exercises in class, alternating rapid
and slow paced activities to keep up maximum
interest level in the class.
I am prepared to give a variety of explanations,
models or descriptions, understanding that
one explanation may not be sufficient for all
students.
I help the students form working principles and
generalizations.
Students use new skills or concepts long
enough so that they are retained and thus future
application is possible.
I plan for "thinking time for my students so
they can organize their thoughts and plan what
they are going to say or do.

Diversity

I feel like I do a good job of making sure that all

students are participating and being called on to
answer questions. I am purposeful about this.
I put students into groups based on ability and
personality. I made sure that they were mixed up
well enough that they would work together well.

Notes:
Students were situated on the carpet to learn the
content. This created a more intimate setting that
called their attention to the board.
I had all my materials prepared before the lesson
began.

Notes:
The chart I have created is well organized and the
children understood how it worked.
I should have written all the words because they had
trouble spelling and didnt understand that there was
no space in between the two root words in a
compound word. This led to confusion later.
I speak loudly enough for sure.
I should have thought of other ways to explain the
definition of a compound word to the students.
I should have given more thinking time in between
answers. For example, they were giving me examples
of compound words. They caught on very fast. I did
not give them enough time to absorb the words
before moving onto the next one.

D. Culture and Adjustment

o I am aware that cultural differences affect the
learning situation.
o I keep the cultural background(s) of my
students in mind when planning daily activities
and am aware of culture misunderstandings
which might arise from the activities I choose.
o I work for an atmosphere of understanding and
mutual respect.
o I tell students when they have done well, but I
don't let praise become mechanical.
o My activites are varied, some more visual,
aural, oral and kinesthetic. I provide models,
examples, and experiences to maximize
learning in each of these areas.

Notes:
I probably give praise too often during the lesson and
it becomes mechanical.
I used different kinds of activities. The practice
activity I used was very hands on. The lesson was
both aural and visual.

Professionalism
B. Self-concepts
I treat my students with the same respect that I expect
them to show me.
I plan "one-centered" activities which give all
students an opportunity at some point to feel
important and accepted.

I make sure that all students have an opportunity

to learn and share. I make sure that I am
respectful of all of their questions and answers.

C. Aptitude and Perception

I am aware that my students learn differently.
My exercises are varied, some ore visual, aural, oral
and kinesthetic. I provide models,
examples, and experiences to maximize learning in each
of these areas.
I finish my class period in a way which will review
the new concepts presented during the class period. My
students can immediately evaluate their understanding of
those concepts.
III. The Activity
A. Interaction
The activities maximize student involvement.
The activities are organized to insure a high success
rate, leaving enough room for error to make the activity
challenging.
The activity is focused.
The activity is geared to the proficiency level of my
class or slightly beyond.
I make the content of the activity relevant and
meaningful to my students' world.

I was aware of different learning styles when

planning my lesson and made sure I reached each
different style.
My students did a wonderful job and were
excited about their new discoveries for weeks
after my lesson. They wanted to find more
examples of compound words in their own books
and were excited to share them with me.
Students were able to discuss during the lesson.
Students were able to work with a partner and
really talk about their thinking during the practice
section of the lesson.
The activity only dealt with compound words so it
was very focused.
Students felt comfortable asking questions or
giving answers they werent 100% sure about.
There was room for failure.

The content was connected to real life during the
engagement. We talked about how they could
read easier and understand big words if they
learned how to break down compound words.
