Building a Humane Zoo


During this unit students had the opportunity to create a
humane zoo to entice the public to explore the zoos creative
habitats and creatures using mixed media. We discussed
proportion, space, perspective, materials and textures to
allow the public to learn about this newly found creature.
In lesson one students went to the library and used
traditional resources to record information in their
sketchbooks that they wanted to incorporate into their
creature or enclosure.

In lesson two the students explored the clay medium, using


everyday object to create and invent new textures. They
applied their discoveries to the building of their clay creatures
used learned clay building techniques.

sculpture of their creature and enclosure.
