America Alone: The End of the SU World As We Wt E Know It By Mark Steyn Reviewed by Kylie-Anne Young While the entire western world focuses on the socia democratic state, multiculturalism, tolerance and the threats of global warming, there is another threat silently sitting in the shadows waiting to change the world as we know it. When you read America Alone by Mark Steyn you will quickly realize that Canadians, along with citizens the world over, need to quickly begin reversing the trend of demographic decline or we will find our- selves isolated in a world controlled by Islam. In order for any civilization to sustain its population the fertility rate has to be at least 2.1 children for every woman. Unfortunately, out- side of the United States this is not the case, and many of us, including Canada, are slipping well below that rate, leaving only immigration to make up the difference. Herein is the problem: in most of the world the great majority of immi- grants are Islamists who have no interest in assimilating. With fertility rates high above sustainable levels, they are slowly conquering the world one country at a time. As Western Civilization continues to age, the Islamic popula- tion continues to get younger, larger and more radical with each new generation. Before you say, that’s ok we should be tolerant of other cultures, remember that Islam says the life of an infidel has no value. Filled with shock, humour, wit, and insight Mark Steyn’s America Alone is a call to all of us to fight this great fight for western civilization. The book is a wake-up call to how bad things are likely to get if we don’t start to reverse the trends now. It is a call for less government, returning responsibilities to citizens, and moving quickly away from the Nanny state we have become so accustomed to.
