New Coach New Team
Miguel Herrera had been raised by his mother and grandmother. His life experience had
helped him become a better person which helped him work harder. He was a short person which
was something that did not gave him an advantage to play for the international team. He
managed to be part of the team because he earned it by playing really good. When Mexico was
going to the 1994 World Cup, he was not chosen by Miguel Baron to be the twenty three players
that would participate in this tournament. He did not ask for an explanation from Baron and he
accepted his decision.
After he had received this news he knew that he could not attend another World Cup
because by that time he would be thirty. In October Miguel Herrera was appointed coach of the
Mexico team since the previous coaches did not help them win. His first task was to help Mexico
qualify to the World Cup. He had to win New Zealand so Mexico can secure a spot at the World
Cup. Many people thought he was the right person to coach the team since he helped Club
America win their fist league championship since 2005. Mexico defeated New Zealand by 9-3
which helped them secure a spot to the World Cup. In December he was given the job full time
since he has done a good job.
Herrera wanted to repair the relationship between the Mexican Federation and several
players. He has some rules for the players when they have a game. He bands the use of
cellphones during the meals and he has had players friends and family stay at hotels two hours

away from the team so they could spend more time together as a team. He also treats them as
adults and he has given them the freedom to do things. He wanted the players to enjoy the
experience of being in a World Cup because not every player gets that opportunity.
Miguel Herrera has learned from other coaches and he uses some of their ideas to help
make the team better. He was inspired by Ricardo La Volpe since he used a unique formation. He
also learned from Enrique Meza that a team started its attack from the back of the line. He also
visited Europe to see how the Europeans coached. Many people did not believe that he would
help Mexico rise again. He used his former players from Club America to play against New
Zealand because they had already played the formation he wanted to use. Miguel Herrera had to
make some hard decisions when he had to chose the twenty three players he would take to the
World Cup. He decided that he would call each player to tell them if they were chosen to play at
the World Cup. He wanted everyone to be treated equally.
This article talks about how he was able to give Mexico the opportunity to participate in
the World Cup thanks to his former players in Club America. This means that he did not give
other players from different clubs to play. Sine the writer is Mexican he is writing things that
help seem Miguel Herrera one of the best coach that has coached the Mexico team. The writer
shows how he has become a good coach by watching other coaches but that is an exaggeration
because that would mean that he would have to watch every coach and see how each of them
treat the players and how they played. This article also talks bad some previous coaches which
helps make Miguel Herrera look better.
