5.-Radioco manufactures two types of radios.

The only scarce resource needed to produce radios

is labor. At present, the company has only two laborers. Laborer 1 is willing to work up to 40 hours
per week and is paid $ 5 per hour. Laborer 2 is willing to work up to 50 hours per week and is paid
$ 6 per hour. The price as well as the resources required to build each type of radio is given below.

Letting xi be the number of type i radios produced each week, show that Radioco should solve the
following LP:
Max z= 3x1+2x2
st
x1+2x2=<40
2x1+x2=<50
x1,x2>=0
a) For what values of the price of a type 1 radio would the current basis remain optimal?
b) For what values of the price of a type 2 radio would the current basis remain optimal?
c) If laborer 1 is willing to work only 30 hours per week, would the current basis remain optimal?
Find the new optimal solution to the LP.
d) If laborer 2 is willing to work up to 60 hours per week, would the current basis remain optimal?
Find the new optimal solution to the LP.
e) Find the shadow price of each constraint.

sensibilidad.

a)Rango del precio1, manteniendo optimo el PL.

1.C-22<=4
C<=26

2.C-22>=1
C>=23

Por lo tanto el precio del radio1 puede variar de 23 a 26$.

b)Rango del precio2, manteniendo optimo el PL.
1.C-20<=6
C<=26

2.C-20>=1.5
C>=21.5

1.- Farmer Leary grows wheat and corn on his 45-acre farm. He can sell at most 140 bushels of
wheat and 120 bushels of corn. Each acre planted with wheat yields 5 bushels of wheat, and each
acre planted with corn yields 4 bushels of corn. Wheat sells for $30 per bushel, and corn sells for
$50 per bushel. To harvest an acre of wheat requires 6 hours of labor; 10 hours are needed to
harvest an acre per hour.Up to 350 hours of labor can be purchased at $10 per hour. Let A1=acres
planted with wheat; A2=acres planted with corn; and L=hours of labor that are purchased. To
maximize profits, Leary should solve the following LP:
Max z=150A1 + 200A2 10L
St A1 + A2 <=45
6A1 + 10A2 L<=0
L<=350
5A1<=140
4A2<=120
A) a) If only acres of land were available, what would Learys profit be.
B) If the price of wheat propped to $26, what would e the new optimal solution to Learys
problem.

C) Use the slack portion of the output to determine the allowable increase and allowable
decrease for the amount of wheat that can be sold. If only 130 bushels of wheat could be
sold, would the answer to the problem change??
Solucin

Fo2=4250-5(75)=3875

2.- Carco manufactures cars and trucks. Each car contributes $300 to profit, and each truck
contributes $400. The resources required to manufacture a car and a truck are shown in table 5.
Each day, Carco can rent up to 98 type 1 machines at a cost of $50 per machine. At present, the
company has 73 type 2 machine and 260 tons of steel available. Marketing considerations dictate
that at least 88 cars and at least 26 trucks be produce. Let x1=number of cars produced daily;
x2=number of trucks produced daily; and m1=type 1 machines rented daily.
To maximize profit, Carco should solve the LP in figure 7. Use the LINDO output to answer the
following questions:
a) if each car contributed $310 to profit, what would be the new optimal solution to the problem?
b)if Carco were required to produce at least 86 cars, what would Carcos profit become?

Car
Truck

Solucin

F02=32540+10(88)= 33420
FO3=32540-2(-20)=32580
