Action Plan

Biodiversity

Zik & Zach

Collaborators
We have partnered with the Zilker Botanical Gardens and will hold a workday
there. We have already communicated.

The Zilker Botanical garden was established in November 1955 by seven

garden clubs that formed the Austin Area Garden Council.
The Zilker Botanical garden is working to promote knowledge and enjoyment
of gardening as well as environmental knowledge of the central Texas area.

Option 1 Remove invasive species

We could potentially help remove an invasive species of tree that has
infected the Taniguchi Garden.
Help remove and invasive species of grass that has been spreading through
the Taniguchi Garden.
These species are crowding out, and absorb excessive amounts of water
making it hard for the species that were put into the garden. Not only would
it
Both of these would require 6-20 volunteers, depending on the amount of
people we get we could remove a large portion of the invasive species if not
all of them from the Taniguchi Garden.
These would take place on a saturday morning in November and would last
around 4 hours.

Option 2 Erosion Barriers

Our second option is to build erosion barriers on a hill in the Taniguchi
Garden.

Erosion barriers prevent the degradation of the hillside, protecting the

stability of the land after heavy rain. We would most likely be building these
by hand using rocks, logs and dirt.
We would need 6-20 volunteers to come out and help us on a TBD Saturday in
November, this would take around 4 hours.

Possible supply needs

With either project we would need to get shovels and other tools to
remove plants from the ground, gardening gloves, and possibly
wheelbarrows to transport the dirt and other materials. We are
considering asking Home Depot, or Keep Austin Beautiful for supply
donations depending on how much we need and how much the
Botanical Gardens already has.
We are also considering either bringing just snacks and general
refreshments or having a catering service from a local business,
depending on how long the workday is going to last.

Audience
The Audience we would like to reach is not really limited
by anything, biodiversity is an issue that affects
everybody. Anyone tell hat would be willing to help work
with us is who we would like to reach, however we are
limited to around 20 volunteers maximum as this is all
that the projects would be fit to handle.
We will also be talking to the Garden Club at AHS and
seeing if they could provide help.

Event Recruiting
We will make a Facebook Event,
encouraging participation.
Possibly Flyers around school, esp. the AGS
hallways.
Ask people to come help support.
