The Walt Disney Company 2012

Walt Disney continues its history of excellence
The Walt Disney Company has been in the forefront of entertainment, innovation and creativity
since its founding in 1923, nearly a century ago, and the 2012 Fiscal Year was no different.
Expanding from a simple cartoon studio, the Walt Disney Company has branched into film studios,
television networks, and even 14 theme parks around the world.
The 2012 Fiscal year saw record breaking income for the company, as key purchases and the release
of several blockbusters kept Disney at the forefront of entertainment. With a secure financial base,
Disneys ability to expand in the future is broad to say the least.
The extent of Disneys influence can be clearly seen, as the successful acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel,
and most recently, Lucasfilm. These expansions have allowed Disney to dominate the box office with
movies such as Wreck-it Ralph, Brave, Frankenweenie, The Avengers, and even Lincoln. However,
Disney isnt limited to one avenue of entertainment, with musicals such as Newsies, Peter and the
Starcatcher, Mary Poppins, and The Lion King earning multiple Tony Awards. In this same vain, ABC,
Disneys primetime television station has delivered three of the top ten scripted series this past year,
allowing Disney to expand their Disney Junior programming, along with launching free-to-air Disney
Channel in Russia and Turkey.
The future for Disney is certainly bright, with plans to not only release new iterations of popular
movies, such as, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, The Lone Ranger, and Monsters University. With
these and more planned, Disney is certainly continuing its standard of excellence.
