Presentation of the Act (10 minutes): The presentation of the assigned act is, essentially, a retelling of what
occurs in that section of the story. It must include: context provided (usually in block text/italics), characters,
major events, plot development/twists, themes, use of figurative language, and an explanation of at least two
important quotations. The class members should be provided with a note sheet for the act (as developed by the
group) to complete during the presentation of information. The presentation can be done creatively, but it must
include auditory and visual learning. Possible ideas include: a reenactment of the act, a PowerPoint
presentation, a lecture that includes photos, or video clips as appropriate. Two-three students will participate in
delivering the presentation, but more group members may be required. (25 points10 for note sheet, 15 for
content delivery)
Class Activity Based on Act (25 minutes, including 5 minutes for instructions): After the presentation of the act
occurs, the group will lead the class through an activity related to that act. This portion is where the bulk of
student learning should occur. The activity must involve all students in the class, but the class activity can be
designed for individuals, pairs, or groups. Possible ideas include: close and critical reading questions, mini-white
board trivia, other games, thinking maps, art (such as drawings, posters, etc.), character maps, storyboards,
group discussion, creative or analytical writing, etc. If the class activity requires a worksheet or specific supplies,
those must be ready in advance. One student will specifically explain the directions for the lesson, and one
student will be responsible for grading the classs work. However, all group members must help facilitate the
activity. (25 points)
Exit Ticket (10 minutes): During the last ten minutes of class, one student should facilitate the delivery of an exit
ticket (to be written or projected on board). The exit ticket MUST instruct students to respond in writing to a
particular, overarching question related to the act being taught. The exit ticket should allow students to
demonstrate what your group taught them during the presentation and activity. One student will be responsible
for facilitating and grading the exit ticket. A copy of the exit ticket prompt is due on the day of the presentation.
(15 points)
Homework Assignment (5 minutes): The homework assignment should address the material taught in the days
lesson. This can include the warm up information as well as the content presented during the lesson. The
homework assignment must be a hand out that asks students to do some kind of writing and some kind of
critical thinking. It can include a fun component (crossword, drawing, matching, game, etc.), but it must
include at least one how and one why question to be answered by the students. (Examples: Why does John
Proctor or How does the emphasis on). One student will be responsible for assigning, explaining, and
correcting the homework assignment the following day. (15 points)
Assessment Questions based on Act: The assessment questions should address the specific information
presented in the lesson. That means the questions should correspond to the information delivered during the
warm-up, presentation, corresponding note sheet, and class activity. You must create 15 questions. Exactly five
questions must be based on the ACT skill taught during the warm-up, and ten questions must relate to the
content of the act you were assigned. For the ten questions related to the assigned act, they MUST be written in
close and critical reading format, meaning a passage of text and subsequent multiple choice questions.
(25 points10 for ACT format, 5 for warm-up information, 10 for overall content and quality)
