Notes

N2aME in mind.

Have a bowl of candy at the front and tell the students that it goes to the students who
win the test for knowledge at the end of the class.

Input: Vocabulary, key terms and basic knowledge to ensure proper learning takes place.

Naming the parts of a triangle

Understanding what a triangle is and what a right angle triangle is

Modeling: Showing the students what the need to know and how to perform certain skills.
3 min

3 min

Show how to use and arrange Pythagorean Theorem in order to calculate and manipulate
variables in a triangle.

Show how to use the acronym SohCahToa in order to solve for additional variables of a
triangle in order to calculate and manipulate variables in a triangle.

Guided Practice (Including CFU): Helping the students to practice their new skills
and knowledge. (Think hear/see/do). CFU by slowly letting the students go on their own.
5 min

Solving random problems on the board selecting random students at a time.

Remember to implement scaffolding here to eventually know that they understand the
concepts by themselves.

Independent Practice/Closure: Allow students to work on their own or in groups

and wrap up the lesson.

min

Students working together in teams

Questions on board, first team to answer them gets a point; team with the most points
gets the bowl of candy.

min

Both teams will get some candy and be retold what they just learned in order to
summarize and review. They will put away their calculators and begin the next class.

Trigonometry!!!

(is awesome)

What is it???
Trigonometry is the science or study of TRIANGLES! Most of them are
triangles like this one!

As you can plainly see, this triangle has 3 sides and

3 angles,
one of which has to be a 90 degree angle. These three sides are called the
hypotenuse, the adjacent and the opposite side. Which ones are which??
These three sides can be denoted as h for hypotenuse, a for adjacent and o
for opposite. They are related by the following equation: h^2 = a^2 + o^2.
This is called The Pythagorean Theorem! Lets try a question or two using
this!

But wait! Theres more! Trigonometry doesnt just stop at

sides, it also deals with angles. These angles are related by three
trigonometric ratios. These are called Sine, Cosine and Tanjent and they
are related by the following acronym:

SOH CAH TOA

Sin(x)=
Tan(x)=

Cos(x)=

H
o
a
Now lets apply it!
