Shipping out to

Boston!
Craig Maude

Introduction
In 1765 different Acts put in place by the British Parliament led to a group of men
band together and create the Sons of Liberty. In 1770 5 colonists lose their lives in
a historic massacre propelling the colonists anger. In the year 1773, Samuel
Adams and a group of men, called the Sons of Liberty, were getting fed up with
the way that the British were handling their import and export business, and in
1774 the British Parliament passes a series of acts to punish the Sons of Liberty
and their supporters. In 1775 King George III declares Parliament must take a
tougher stand on colonial rebels. All of this, centered and taking place in one city,
Boston.

TASK
Students will research an event that happened in the city of Boston during the
American Revolution. Using the internet to research, they will put together the
information on a PowerPoint. Using the Who, What, When, Where, Why as well
as the effect it had on the American rebels and British people.

Process
Step 1) Students will pick an event that either happened in Boston or affected
Boston and share with teacher.
Step 2) Students will use the internet to research their information.
Step 3) Students will then put their information on to a PowerPoint and follow
PowerPoint rubric standards.
Step 4) Student will present the topic they picked to the classroom.

Conclusion
Boston was a key city during the American Revolution. With the major
port for shipping to and from other countries, as well as it being so close
to the shore for fishing and other local trade. There were many major
events, like the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, and the Sons of
Liberty were formed here. The city was a key part to the Revolution and
the turning point of the Americans beginning to rebel.

Evaluation and Extension

What have you learned from this project?
Overall I learned what a WebQuest was. I see how useful they can be in the classroom as
well as good ways to get students to use technology too.
What were your most useful resources in completing the project?
Using the internet definitely helped. Looking at different websites that could show me
examples of what a WebQuest was and how to create one. The internet really helped clear
up any questions I had.
How will/could you share or use this project?
When I become a teacher this could definitely be used. I know I want to become a SPED
teacher which might make this difficult, however making this project a class project and
having the students take each part step by step with help it could help them accomplish
using PowerPoint or the internet for school needs as well. If any teacher friends need a
WebQuest idea on the American Revolution this could be a good start for them as well.
What are some other possible applications of the technology you have learned and used to
complete this project?
There really is an infinite amount of uses for PowerPoint and internet combinations.
How could this project be further improved?
I think I could potentially use more components to grade the quest on. As well as have the
students go through a little more steps in the process of completing the quest.
If this is a student project, how will it be evaluated?
There is rubric for the students to be evaluated on. There is a presentation part to go along
with a PowerPoint which the students will be evaluated on.
Has this project led you to think about other technologies you would like to explore and master?
If so, what are they?
This definitely has made me want to explore my possibilities with other technologies. Doing
this WebQuest has shown me that there are definitely more ways to teach a class with
technology and it can help as a teacher to have in my arsenal of strategies.
