Procedure

Assessment

First Day
-First, I will give them definitions of what they have to learn that day
(prose and poem, including the structure of the poem).
-Then, after each definition, I will give them an excerpt from a prose
with bolded words that they have to predict the meaning of using the
excerpt and maybe a funny and fun poem on a promethean board to
read aloud to them. I will make students get up and color code words
that rhyme, the number of syllables of each line and circle each
stanza.
Second Day
-I will give them definitions of what they have to learn (points of
view and drama).
-For the different points of view, I will give them a bunch of excerpts
where they would have to read and they write down on the boards
they are given what point of view they think it is. Students will also
be allowed to go on a computer and make a diagram comparing and
contrasting the different points of view on Kidspiration.
-For the drama, I will hand them a short play so some students will be
able to participate. The setting of the play and the characters will be
given and they would have to act based on that. It makes them
visualize different places and people.
Students will be assessed with a weekend packet that will be handed
to them at the end of the second day. It will include 10 multiple
choice questions where a sentence is given with a bolded word and
they would have to circle the synonym of the word. Next, it will
include a short poem and they would have to underline words that
rhyme with each other and circle the other words that rhyme. Theyd
also have to count the syllables of each line in the poem and write the
number down at the end of the line. They will also be asked to count
the stanzas and write down the number at the bottom of the page.
Another multiple choice section with 10 questions will be given
where the students will have first person, third person limited, and
third person omniscient as their choices and a different sentence will
be put for each question. After that, an excerpt of a drama will be
given with a blank paper after it. The kids will be asked to read the
drama and draw a detailed and colored picture that goes with what
they have read. They may include speech bubbles and other words to
help identify the characters they have drawn.
