SYLLABUS

Honors World History 2014-15

INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS
9th Grade Honors World History will explore the history of the world from early
civilizations through the 20th century. Students taking this course will attain a
mastery of world history with special focus on critical thinking, chronology, and
geography, and gain skills in historical research.

NEEDS AND RESOURCES


REQUIRED MATERIALS

To successfully complete this course, you will need

A pen (black or blue ink only) or pencil every day


A composition book to use as a reflection journal
A spiral notebook for notes
Spare notebook paper for classwork
An agenda to keep track of assignments
Optional: highlighters, colored pencils, dictionary or thesaurus, etc.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES


GENERAL RULES

1. Cell phones are prohibited in the classroom


2. Swearing, the use of inappropriate language, or bullying others is
strictly prohibited in the classroom
3. Leave the learning space better than you found it (clean up after
yourself and throw away any garbage)
You are a member of a community of learners. For any community to thrive, certain
concepts must be embraced. In our community, I expect the following general
behavior of all students.
RESPECT: All students will respect themselves, their community members and their
learning environment.
READINESS: All students must attend class everyday and ready to actively
participate in daily activities.
RESPONSIBILITY: All students must accept responsibility for themselves and their
actions.
CHEATING, COPYING AND PLAGIARISM:
Cheating, copying and plagiarism are serious acts of academic dishonesty that are not
tolerated. Students who cheat receive a zero for the assignment or exam. Students involved
in copying of work receive a zero for the assignment or exam, including any student allowing
the copying to take place. Plagiarism is the use of anothers ideas or expression without
appropriate acknowledgement of the source. Examples of plagiarism include failure to give
appropriate acknowledgement when repeating anothers phrase, sentence or paragraph;
failure to give appropriate acknowledgement when paraphrasing anothers thesis or argument;

failure to give appropriate acknowledgement when presenting anothers line of thinking; or,
turning in a paper for a current course that was written for another course.
GRADING POLICIES:
HOMEWORK: All homework assignments must be completed on the scheduled due
date. Unless otherwise noted, assignments are collected at the beginning of the class
period. ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE ACCEPTED WITH 25% POINTS DEDUCTED ON THE
NEXT DAY AND NO LATER.
Extra credit MAY be given at certain time throughout the year and will be specified
by Ms. Luco.

GRADING SCALE:
The following grading scale has been established to determine the students nine
weeks grade on all quizzes, tests, projects, final grades, etc.
A = 100-90%
B = 89-80%
C = 79-70%
D = 69-60%
F = 59-0%
